Learn how we tag Monarch butterflies as we send them off on their journey to Mexico, or challenge yourself to our Monarch Migration game! We will have a butterfly storytime, face painting, a butterfly walk and scavenger hunt, crafts, pollinator friendly seeds, an edible insect station and lots of resources for native gardens and gardening for pollinators! 

Connecting urban and rural communities between Nampa and Boise, this inclusive 5K invites participants of all ages and abilities to run or walk a scenic route through a Meridian park. Hosted alongside the Latino/Latine Run Club in celebration of Latino Conservation Week, the event combines outdoor movement with cultural vibrancy, featuring an energizer warm-up, live music, dance, local vendors, and food. The initiative aims to raise awareness of Idaho’s natural spaces, provide environmental resources, and foster long-term community stewardship of local parks.

Let’s go fishing at a National Wildlife Refuge! Learn the basics of fishing and enjoy your time in nature. No experience required, all ages welcomed. End your fishing outing with provided lunch.

Please note: There will be a limit of 50 attendees so make sure to register you and your family early! Spots may fill up fast. Individuals from the Idaho Wildlife Federation, Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge and the Idaho Department of Fish and Game (IDFG) will be on hand to assist all new anglers with the basics of fishing.

Latinos Explorando is teaming up with Boise Bicycle Project for an easygoing ride along the Boise Greenbelt. We’ll start at Boise Bicycle Project with a brief talk on bike safety & greenbelt etiquette, learn more about the services BBP offers, & have the opportunity to get free minor bike repairs before we head out! Then we’ll hit the Greenbelt for an easy ride through some of Boise’s beautiful riverfront scenery.

Let's take a walk and practice birding in English and Spanish! Binoculars are available to borrow. Walk is approximately 1.5 miles on flat, rocky trails. For adults and children ages 7 and up. Free.

Come join us and take a guided hike on our Scotler Cove Trail near the Mr. and Mrs. F. L. Schlagle Library. The hike will be led in Spanish and English and will be about a 30-45 minute walk outside. 

Latinos throughout Central Florida are invited to celebrate Latino Conservation Week with Orange Audubon and partners.

Activities will be constructing bird nest boxes and taking a walk at the Apopka Birding Park, a restoration site located at the entrance to the Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive.

Join Tampa Bay Kayak Anglers, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to introducing new audiences to kayak fishing, ethical angling, safe boating, and conservation, for a special evening celebrating Latino Conservation Week and Hispanic Heritage Month.

Colorful Creatures: Alebrije Workshop

Join us on Saturday, October 10th, at 10 am to celebrate Day of the Dead and New Jersey wildlife by making "alebrijes" with our bilingual educator, Jasleen. This event is perfect for families with children aged 3-8! 

This event is perfect for families that want to celebrate Latin American traditions, craft together, and spend time in nature as a family! 

What's included: 

• Storybook Reading of "I remember my abuelo" - We will begin with a brief 10 minute reading about the Day of The Dead, read in Spanish. 
• Hands-on craft activity - Building wildlife "alebrijes" or colorful hybrid animals using materials provided by Cedar Run 
• Wildlife Meet and Greet - Meet one of our resident animals up close and personal.
• Wildlife Housing Area Tour - Walk as a family through our wildlife housing area as we explore the cultural significance of our animals in Latin America!

Familias Empoderadas will host a bilingual outdoor wellness experience at a local public park, inviting Latino families to reconnect with nature through mindful movement, environmental education, and community reflection. Participants will take part in a guided nature walk, learn about the health and environmental benefits of California's public lands, and experience a DanzaCura healing movement session inspired by the elements of nature.

El Día del Arroyo es un evento comunitario de restauración de cuencas hidrográficas basado en el voluntariado que el Alpine Watershed Group ha estado coordinando desde 2001. Join us for a fun, family-friendly celebration of Latino Conservation Week! Together with Santa Barbara Botanic Garden, Latino Outdoors, Wilderness Youth Project, and Los Padres Forest Watch, we'll explore the amazing plants, animals, and insects that call our local environment home. This free bilingual and bicultural event is open to all ages and is a great opportunity to connect with nature, learn something new, and spend time with your community. Registration is required as there is a 50-person limit for this event. 

The event takes place at Elings Park in Santa Barbara, where you'll receive a brief lesson on local biodiversity efforts, a nature zine created by the Botanic Garden, and meet 4 local organizations doing conservation work in the region. We'll also take a short, easy walk (about 15 minutes) to a nearby native plant restoration site, where you'll see how restoring local habitats helps birds, bees, butterflies, and other wildlife thrive. You'll participate in a native seed collection effort and also see how native plants differ from their non-native counterparts. Along the way, you'll discover simple ways we can all help protect the natural places around us. You'll leave the event with your very own native plant to take home and care for!!

Please bring a hat, a reusable water bottle, comfortable walking shoes, and a sense of curiosity. Whether you're new to exploring the outdoors or already love spending time in nature, we look forward to sharing this experience with you and your family.

Coffee and pan-dulce will be served in the morning and burritos from Del Pueblo Cafe will be provided for lunch.

This transformative airboat experience seeks to reconnect Hispanic organizations and communities in Central Florida with our precious Everglades ecosystem. It is vital that the Hispanic community understands that the health of local wetlands directly impacts the water supply for more than 8 million people in Florida. The expedition is not just recreational; it includes a guided talk on the impact of urban development on river headwaters and the importance of protecting wetlands from pollution and habitat fragmentation.

Trail Work

Join Big Sur Land Trust, the City of Salinas, CSUMB's Habitat Stewardship Project, the Center for Community Advocacy, and community partners as we celebrate the grand opening of the 67-acre Restoration Area at Ensen Community Park!

This free, family-friendly event will feature guided bird walks, a community bike ride, hands-on activities, community resource booths, raffles, and complimentary espresso drinks. Community members of all ages are invited to explore the new restoration area, connect with local organizations, and celebrate this exciting milestone for Salinas.

The restoration area represents the second and final phase of the Ensen Community Project, a transformative effort that has converted land once drained for agriculture into a vibrant landscape where wetlands, wildlife habitat, environmental education, and outdoor recreation thrive together. The project fulfills a long-standing community vision to create more parks and open space in Salinas while restoring a portion of the historic Carr Lake area for both people and nature.

This achievement reflects years of collaboration and community leadership. Since 2018, more than 7,000 residents, community organizations, and local leaders have helped shape the vision for this space, ensuring it serves as a welcoming destination that reflects the values, culture, and aspirations of the Salinas community.

Come celebrate this community-driven conservation success and experience the newest addition to Ensen Community Park!

The Great Sierra River Cleanup is back! GSRC is a Sierra-wide watershed cleanup event coordinated by Sierra Nevada Alliance in collaboration with California’s Coastal Cleanup Day. 46,201 volunteers removed 398,654 pounds (199 tons) of trash from the Sierra Nevada waterways and across the state’s entire coastline. We will spend the morning picking up litter at our Clementine Beach Preserve and at the connected Upper Lake Clementine Beach area. Lunch will be provided at the end of the day. You are welcome to spend time at the public beach along the river after the cleanup, but please note that the river is fast and cold.

Este evento es perfecto para las familias que quieren celebrar los mitos de Latinoamérica, aprender juntos, pasar tiempo en la naturaleza y ver el refugio de una manera nueva.

• El minicuento de La Leyenda de La Lechuza - Empiezan con un cuento breve de 10 minutos de Zulema y La Bruja Lechuza, leído en español. 
• Conocer una fauna - Conocen a uno de nuestros búhos residentes en una experiencia íntima, en la que pueden verlo muy cercano y personal. 
• Actividades prácticas - Tienen la oportunidad de mirar y tocar los artefactos de los búhos. 
• El Tour de Las Viviendas - Caminan por las viviendas de nuestra fauna mientras exploramos las diferencias entre los especies de los buhos que viven con nosotros.

Join us on Saturday, October 10 as we talk about the legend of La Lechuza and meet some of our resident owls with our Bilingual Educator, Jasleen. Families will investigate artifacts and learn about the adaptations of owls that make them so special! This program is good for ages 8+!

This engaging event is perfect for families looking to celebrate Hispanic myths, learn together, get outside, and see the Refuge in a whole new way.

What’s included:

• Legend of La Lechuza Storybook - Start off with a quick 10-minute storybook reading session of Zulema and the Witch Owl.
• Wildlife Meet and Greet - Meet one of our resident Eastern Screech-owls up close and personal.
• Hands-On Activities - Have the opportunity to look at and feel owl artifacts.
• Wildlife Housing Area Tour - Walk as a family through our wildlife housing area as we explore the differences between the different owl species we have living with us!

Join the Open Space Authority, San Jose Astronomical Association (SJAA) and US Fish and Wildlife to celebrate the beauty of nature and community for Latino Conservation Week!

As the sun begins to set, we will embark on a guided sensory walk, taking the time to experience nature through sight, sound, touch and smell. We will listen for the evening chorus of frogs and discover the changing colors of the landscape at sunset. As darkness falls, our volunteer astrodocents will help us turn our eyes to the night sky. With telescopes, participants will have the opportunity to view the waxing crescent moon and learn about its phases and surface features.

We hope you can join us to celebrate our community, connection, and the beauty of outdoors.

Dress in layers and bring a red-flashlight to preserve your night vision. Bring water and a snack . Note that the walk to the moon viewing area can be rocky, so close-toed shoes are recommended.

Participants can explore the wetlands through bilingual guided walks, birdwatching, nature talks, hands-on activities, arts and crafts, and interactive science experiences. From discovering the tiny creatures living in the water to learning about the plants and birds that depend on the estuary, there will be something for every age and interest .One of the highlights will be a hands-on experience in the estuary, where participants can help plant 50 native plants, take part in a water quality demonstration, and spend time with biologists. Local conservation experts will help participants understand what these activities reveal about the health and importance of our wetlands. Families can also explore local biodiversity using iNaturalist, connect with conservation organizations, and discover nature up close through specimens, microscopes, field guides, and other educational tools. Join Sierra Nevada Alliance and Luis Rubio on this day of adventure in celebration of Latino Conservation Week! Participants in this bilingual event can expect a day full of adventure, learning, and community. Scheduled activities for the day include rafting, a picnic, and a guided hike around Donner Lake. Are you a first-time rafter!? No problem! Experienced staff will guide the experience. Expect to raft for 45-60 minutes while learning about the history of Donner Lake Memorial State Park and its importance to California and U.S. history. During the guided hike, you will travel on a relatively flat path around the lake, learning about historical uses of native plants, trees, and mushrooms, or you can remain at the picnic area for community-building games and activities.

This is a free, family-friendly event meant to combine community, adventure, and education! Lunch will be provided. Parking will be free. Tickets are very limited, so please only reserve if you are definitely joining us (one ticket per person). Waivers must be signed on the day of the event to participate. Register here.

Join Aurora Water and City of Aurora’s Parks, Recreation, and Open Space division at Star K Ranch as we celebrate Latino Conservation Week by sustaining a healthy natural environment. In this family-friendly event, participants will assist to preserve tree canopy by applying beaver chew paint and maintain good stream health by trash cleanup.  Our efforts will give back to nature, water, plants, and animals. Latino Outdoors Central Coast will participate in the annual California Coastal Cleanup Day coordinated by the California Coastal Commission. In San Luis Obispo County, ECOSLO coordinates Creeks to Coast Cleanup. This year, Latino Outdoors will help cleanup at Oso Flaco Lake.

Participating in Coastal Cleanup Day fits right in with Latino Conservation Week which is September 12-20, 2026. Latino Conservation Week was created to support the Latino community getting into the outdoors and participating in activities to protect our natural resources.

Celebrate community, culture, and conservation at our special volunteer day at the Ascot Hills Native Plant Nursery in East Los Angeles! In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month and Latino Conservation Week, we’re coming together to care for our local ecosystem, honor our connections to the land, and celebrate our vibrant community. Whether you’re an experienced gardener or brand new to plant care, everyone is welcome to get their hands in the soil.

• Native Plant Care: Pot, propagate, and care for native plant species.
• Nursery Maintenance: Organize, weed, and water native saplings and flora.
• Black Walnut Processing: Process black walnuts from husk to seed (which we will later use for natural clothing dyes!).
• Learning: Discover how native plant propagation, habitat restoration, and equitable green access build a climate-resilient California.

Volunteers will be welcomed with authentic café de olla and pan dulce at check-in, and we'll wrap up the workday with freshly cut fruit with Tajín and native plant-inspired aguas frescas! (Available on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last.)

Experience the desert after dark on a guided 1-mile night hike along an easy, flat trail. As the sun sets, we'll discover how the landscape comes alive with nocturnal wildlife and sounds that many people never get to experience.

Nature Friends will provide headlamps to help light the trail and UV flashlights to search for fascinating glowing critters, including scorpions, that fluoresce under ultraviolet light. 

Before the sun sets, we will make glow-in-the-dark hats.

To keep everyone comfortable, we'll also provide light snacks and drinks to help everyone stay hydrated during the hike.

Explore Whitewater Preserve after hours on a guided night walk with Friends of the Desert Mountains. Join bilingual naturalists as we discover the sights and sounds of the desert after dark.

This year’s summit will be accompanied by a Summit field trip on Sunday, September 13th at the Los Ranchos Agri-Nature Center. Programming at the event will center around teaching through gardening and growing. The field trip will run from 9am-12:30pm and will include a tour of the center, a workshop with a local outdoor learning provider, and lunch.

Join us at MSI for an in-person event where we will celebrate and strengthen local Bay understanding! This gathering is the perfect opportunity to connect with the community, share ideas, and learn how we can protect our bay together. Nuestra Herencia, Nuestra Tierra- Pedaling for Our Land is a bilingual, family-friendly event hosted by the Idaho Hispanic Foundation as part of Latino Conservation Week and our annual El Grito celebration, which kicks off Hispanic Heritage Month. Families will gather at the Idaho Hispanic Community Center and we will start with a bicycle and helmet fittings and giveaways and allow them the time to decorate their bicycles with nature-inspired and recycled materials before participating in a guided bike ride. Along the route, children and families will face common obstacles which we will help them learn to navigate and they will engage in interactive conservation activities focused on protecting pollinators, wildlife, water resources, and public parks. The event will conclude with more bicycle safety education, healthy refreshments, and conservation resources to help families continue enjoying Idaho's parks and outdoor spaces long after the event.  This is a part of a larger Hispanic Heritage month celebration with El Grito, food and artisan vendors, cultural performances and more.  

Many Latino families face barriers to accessing outdoor recreation, including limited equipment, lack of familiarity with local parks, language barriers, and limited opportunities to participate in culturally welcoming outdoor activities. Our event removes these barriers by providing a free, bilingual, family-centered experience that introduces participants to bike riding and bicycle safety and encourages continued use of Idaho's public spaces. Through conservation education, bicycle safety instruction, helmet distribution, and bicycle giveaways, families will leave with the knowledge, confidence, and equipment needed to enjoy nature beyond the event. By integrating conservation into our Hispanic Heritage Month kickoff celebration, we also demonstrate that caring for our environment is an important part of celebrating our culture and investing in future generations.

Floreciendo Juntos! Flourishing Together! 

Come celebrate our first Latino Conservation Week Celebration, set for September 19, 2026, 10am-3pm, at the Ogden Nature Center. Admission is free, all are welcome. Join us for bilingual bird talks at 10 am and 1 pm, with scavenger hunts with prizes, face painting, crafts, and other activities throughout the day. There will also be a community resource fair, a taco truck, and ice cream!

Acompanennos para disfrutar de charlas sobre aves a las 10:00 a.m. y a la 1:00 p.m., juegos, busquedas del tesoro con premios, y pintura facial. Habra camiones de comida y vendedores de helados en el lugar.

Take a closer look at what owls eat during this hands-on bilingual Discovery Table at the Mission Trails Visitor Center. Presented in English and Spanish as part of Latino Conservation Week, the activity invites visitors to examine owl pellets and discover the tiny bones and other clues hidden inside. MTRP volunteer Trail Guides will help participants identify what they find and learn more about owls, their prey and the role these nocturnal predators play in the park’s ecosystem.

Join us for an evening on the water to get outside, connect with nature, & spend time in community. Latinos Explorando is inviting you to come explore Quinn’s Pond together in community by paddleboard during Latino Conservation Week, a time to celebrate our connection to the outdoors & the places we all call home.

We invite nuestra gente to join the Plantas Nativas Sin Fronteras (without borders) week-long celebration of native plants that support pollinators and promote healthy habitats in our shared ecoregions with México. Small bilingual native plant e-guides of plants from the following Texas/ México transboundary ecoregions will be shared for use at local parks, demonstration gardens, or during walks and hikes.

An ecoregion is a large area of land or water that shares similar climate, soils, geology, and plant and animal communities. It uses natural boundaries instead of political lines to help scientists study and protect the environment. The ongoing militarization of the Texas-Mexico border region - with its interconnected river buoys, extensive multi-layered razor wire, steel bollard walls, and makeshift land blockades - has directly destroyed, fragmented, and degraded native plant and wildlife habitats by scraping away highly biodiverse ecosystems, altering vital river hydrology, paving the way for invasive species, and threatening critically endangered species by cutting off their natural corridors. Without these habitats, wildlife such as the Monarch butterfly and pollinators also lack the space needed for feeding or reproduction.

Una ecorregión es una gran extensión de tierra o agua que comparte características similares en cuanto a clima, suelos, geología y comunidades de plantas y animales. Utiliza límites naturales en lugar de fronteras políticas para facilitar a los científicos el estudio y la protección del medio ambiente. This event is a one-night camping trip designed to provide BIPOC families with hands-on outdoor experiences, including camping skills workshops, interpretive programs, and community-building activities. It aims to remove barriers to outdoor access by offering free gear, meals, bilingual facilitation in English and Spanish and a dedicated affinity space outdoors. Some of the hands-on workshops include fire by friction, fire safety, tent and kitchen setup, guided walks, and games.

Celebrate Latino Conservation Week with a special bilingual edition of Reading with a Ranger at Mission Trails Regional Park. City of San Diego Park Ranger Elizabeth Delgado will lead a family-friendly storytime presented in both English and Spanish, giving young visitors a fun way to connect with nature, wildlife and the park. Families are invited to settle in, listen together and learn more about the natural world through stories and conversation.

El Barrio Viejo alberga una de las mayores concentraciones de construcciones de adobe del siglo XIX en el suroeste de los Estados Unidos.

Se trata de un paseo de 0,9 millas (aprox. 1,4 km) que va desde el santuario de El Tiradito hasta la antigua tienda de comestibles de Lee Ho.

El recorrido destacará la historia local, desde la expedición española hasta la época del territorio y la llegada del ferrocarril.

También hablaremos sobre el impacto de la renovación urbana y la gentrificación.

• Tipo de superficie: Principalmente aceras o banquetas urbanas pavimentadas con asfalto y concreto.
• Terreno y pendiente: Terreno urbano plano con cambios de elevación mínimos.
• Estado del camino: Las aceras o bbanquetas del barrio histórico pueden ser estrechas, irregulares o tener bordillos altos. El tráfico vehicular es bajo o mínimo a esa hora.
• Ritmo: Paseo tranquilo y pausado, con paradas frecuentes para observar la arquitectura.
