Learn how we tag Monarch butterflies as we send them off on their journey to Mexico, or challenge yourself to our Monarch Migration game! We will have a butterfly storytime, face painting, a butterfly walk and scavenger hunt, crafts, pollinator friendly seeds, an edible insect station and lots of resources for native gardens and gardening for pollinators! 

Connecting urban and rural communities between Nampa and Boise, this inclusive 5K invites participants of all ages and abilities to run or walk a scenic route through a Meridian park. Hosted alongside the Latino/Latine Run Club in celebration of Latino Conservation Week, the event combines outdoor movement with cultural vibrancy, featuring an energizer warm-up, live music, dance, local vendors, and food. The initiative aims to raise awareness of Idaho’s natural spaces, provide environmental resources, and foster long-term community stewardship of local parks.

Let’s go fishing at a National Wildlife Refuge! Learn the basics of fishing and enjoy your time in nature. No experience required, all ages welcomed. End your fishing outing with provided lunch.

Please note: There will be a limit of 50 attendees so make sure to register you and your family early! Spots may fill up fast. Individuals from the Idaho Wildlife Federation, Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge and the Idaho Department of Fish and Game (IDFG) will be on hand to assist all new anglers with the basics of fishing.

Latinos Explorando is teaming up with Boise Bicycle Project for an easygoing ride along the Boise Greenbelt. We’ll start at Boise Bicycle Project with a brief talk on bike safety & greenbelt etiquette, learn more about the services BBP offers, & have the opportunity to get free minor bike repairs before we head out! Then we’ll hit the Greenbelt for an easy ride through some of Boise’s beautiful riverfront scenery.

Come join us and take a guided hike on our Scotler Cove Trail near the Mr. and Mrs. F. L. Schlagle Library. The hike will be led in Spanish and English and will be about a 30-45 minute walk outside. 

Latinos throughout Central Florida are invited to celebrate Latino Conservation Week with Orange Audubon and partners.

Activities will be constructing bird nest boxes and taking a walk at the Apopka Birding Park, a restoration site located at the entrance to the Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive.

Join Tampa Bay Kayak Anglers, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to introducing new audiences to kayak fishing, ethical angling, safe boating, and conservation, for a special evening celebrating Latino Conservation Week and Hispanic Heritage Month.

The celebration will take place on Thursday, September 17, beginning at 6:30 PM, at GTE Financial Headquarters, located at 711 E. Henderson Ave., Tampa, FL 33602.

Guests will enjoy exclusive screenings of Casting Our Heritage: Hispanics in Tampa Bay Waters and From Sea to Soul, two inspiring short films that highlight the cultural connections, personal stories, and conservation efforts taking place throughout Tampa Bay's waters.

Hosted at the East Warren Community Arboretum & Botanical Garden in Detroit’s 48214 community, this hands-on event brings residents, families, volunteers, and community partners together to plant trees, grow neighborhood green space, and strengthen our collective connection to nature.

Colorful Creatures: Alebrije Workshop

Join us on Saturday, October 10th, at 10 am to celebrate Day of the Dead and New Jersey wildlife by making "alebrijes" with our bilingual educator, Jasleen. This event is perfect for families with children aged 3-8!

• Storybook Reading of "I remember my abuelo" - We will begin with a brief 10 minute reading about the Day of The Dead, read in Spanish. 
• Hands-on craft activity - Building wildlife "alebrijes" or colorful hybrid animals using materials provided by Cedar Run 
• Wildlife Meet and Greet - Meet one of our resident animals up close and personal.
• Wildlife Housing Area Tour - Walk as a family through our wildlife housing area as we explore the cultural significance of our animals in Latin America!

Familias Empoderadas will host a bilingual outdoor wellness experience at a local public park, inviting Latino families to reconnect with nature through mindful movement, environmental education, and community reflection. Participants will take part in a guided nature walk, learn about the health and environmental benefits of California's public lands, and experience a DanzaCura healing movement session inspired by the elements of nature.

El Día del Arroyo es un evento comunitario de restauración de cuencas hidrográficas basado en el voluntariado que el Alpine Watershed Group ha estado coordinando desde 2001. Join us for a fun, family-friendly celebration of Latino Conservation Week! Together with Santa Barbara Botanic Garden, Latino Outdoors, Wilderness Youth Project, and Los Padres Forest Watch, we'll explore the amazing plants, animals, and insects that call our local environment home. This free bilingual and bicultural event is open to all ages and is a great opportunity to connect with nature, learn something new, and spend time with your community. Registration is required as there is a 50-person limit for this event. 

The event takes place at Elings Park in Santa Barbara, where you'll receive a brief lesson on local biodiversity efforts, a nature zine created by the Botanic Garden, and meet 4 local organizations doing conservation work in the region. We'll also take a short, easy walk (about 15 minutes) to a nearby native plant restoration site, where you'll see how restoring local habitats helps birds, bees, butterflies, and other wildlife thrive. You'll participate in a native seed collection effort and also see how native plants differ from their non-native counterparts. Along the way, you'll discover simple ways we can all help protect the natural places around us. You'll leave the event with your very own native plant to take home and care for!!

Please bring a hat, a reusable water bottle, comfortable walking shoes, and a sense of curiosity. Whether you're new to exploring the outdoors or already love spending time in nature, we look forward to sharing this experience with you and your family.

Coffee and pan-dulce will be served in the morning and burritos from Del Pueblo Cafe will be provided for lunch.

This transformative airboat experience seeks to reconnect Hispanic organizations and communities in Central Florida with our precious Everglades ecosystem. It is vital that the Hispanic community understands that the health of local wetlands directly impacts the water supply for more than 8 million people in Florida. The expedition is not just recreational; it includes a guided talk on the impact of urban development on river headwaters and the importance of protecting wetlands from pollution and habitat fragmentation.

Trail Work

The Great Sierra River Cleanup is back! GSRC is a Sierra-wide watershed cleanup event coordinated by Sierra Nevada Alliance in collaboration with California’s Coastal Cleanup Day. 46,201 volunteers removed 398,654 pounds (199 tons) of trash from the Sierra Nevada waterways and across the state’s entire coastline. We will spend the morning picking up litter at our Clementine Beach Preserve and at the connected Upper Lake Clementine Beach area. Lunch will be provided at the end of the day. You are welcome to spend time at the public beach along the river after the cleanup, but please note that the river is fast and cold.

Join the Open Space Authority, San Jose Astronomical Association (SJAA) and US Fish and Wildlife to celebrate the beauty of nature and community for Latino Conservation Week!

As the sun begins to set, we will embark on a guided sensory walk, taking the time to experience nature through sight, sound, touch and smell. We will listen for the evening chorus of frogs and discover the changing colors of the landscape at sunset. As darkness falls, our volunteer astrodocents will help us turn our eyes to the night sky. With telescopes, participants will have the opportunity to view the waxing crescent moon and learn about its phases and surface features.

“Cafecito & Conservation,” will be a bilingual community gathering. Here participants will learn about Wisconsin’s city and state parks and trails, conservation efforts, farming and agricultural culture, and opportunities to enjoy and protect local natural spaces and foster a sense of belonging and leadership. The event will also highlight connections between Latino cultural traditions and Wisconsin culture, recognizing shared values around land, food, agriculture, family, and community.

“Cafecito y Conservación” será un encuentro comunitario bilingüe donde los participantes aprenderán sobre los parques y senderos municipales y estatales de Wisconsin, los esfuerzos de conservación, la agricultura y la cultura agrícola, así como las oportunidades para disfrutar y proteger los espacios naturales locales, fomentando un sentido de pertenencia y liderazgo. Join  National Park Service George Washington Memorial Parkway, Green Latinos, and Urban Adventure Squad for a Latino Conservation Week Celebration.  The Friends of Mount Vernon Trail will be picking up trash from 9am-11am near Theodore Roosevelt Island. There will also be community tabling (10am-2pm) in celebration of Latino Conservation Week. Activities include completing Junior Park Ranger activities and earning a Junior Ranger badge, learning from National Park Rangers and conservation groups about the park and the watershed, a hike on the island led by a park ranger, and free giveaways.

Join Sierra Nevada Alliance and Luis Rubio on this day of adventure in celebration of Latino Conservation Week! Participants in this bilingual event can expect a day full of adventure, learning, and community. Scheduled activities for the day include rafting, a picnic, and a guided hike around Donner Lake. Are you a first-time rafter!? No problem! Experienced staff will guide the experience. Expect to raft for 45-60 minutes while learning about the history of Donner Lake Memorial State Park and its importance to California and U.S. history. During the guided hike, you will travel on a relatively flat path around the lake, learning about historical uses of native plants, trees, and mushrooms, or you can remain at the picnic area for community-building games and activities.

This is a free, family-friendly event meant to combine community, adventure, and education! Lunch will be provided. Parking will be free. Tickets are very limited, so please only reserve if you are definitely joining us (one ticket per person). Waivers must be signed on the day of the event to participate. Register here.

Join Aurora Water and City of Aurora’s Parks, Recreation, and Open Space division at Star K Ranch as we celebrate Latino Conservation Week by sustaining a healthy natural environment. In this family-friendly event, participants will assist to preserve tree canopy by applying beaver chew paint and maintain good stream health by trash cleanup.  Our efforts will give back to nature, water, plants, and animals. Experience the desert after dark on a guided 1-mile night hike along an easy, flat trail. As the sun sets, we'll discover how the landscape comes alive with nocturnal wildlife and sounds that many people never get to experience.

Nature Friends will provide headlamps to help light the trail and UV flashlights to search for fascinating glowing critters, including scorpions, that fluoresce under ultraviolet light. 

Before the sun sets, we will make glow-in-the-dark hats.

To keep everyone comfortable, we'll also provide light snacks and drinks to help everyone stay hydrated during the hike.

Explore Whitewater Preserve after hours on a guided night walk with Friends of the Desert Mountains. Join bilingual naturalists as we discover the sights and sounds of the desert after dark.

Environmental Education of New Mexico is proud to announce the 2026 NM Outdoor Learning Summit on September 12, 2026 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

This unique event will bring together teachers, nonprofit leaders, and government agency staff for a day of building collaborations, sharing stories, and celebrating the unique cultural and physical landscapes of New Mexico. Attendees will experience hands-on sessions with local experts on topics such as youth-led decision making, bilingual program design, and much more!

This year’s summit will be accompanied by a Summit field trip on Sunday, September 13th at the Los Ranchos Agri-Nature Center. Programming at the event will center around teaching through gardening and growing. The field trip will run from 9am-12:30pm and will include a tour of the center, a workshop with a local outdoor learning provider, and lunch.

Nuestra Herencia, Nuestra Tierra- Pedaling for Our Land is a bilingual, family-friendly event hosted by the Idaho Hispanic Foundation as part of Latino Conservation Week and our annual El Grito celebration, which kicks off Hispanic Heritage Month. Families will gather at the Idaho Hispanic Community Center and we will start with a bicycle and helmet fittings and giveaways and allow them the time to decorate their bicycles with nature-inspired and recycled materials before participating in a guided bike ride. Along the route, children and families will face common obstacles which we will help them learn to navigate and they will engage in interactive conservation activities focused on protecting pollinators, wildlife, water resources, and public parks. The event will conclude with more bicycle safety education, healthy refreshments, and conservation resources to help families continue enjoying Idaho's parks and outdoor spaces long after the event.  This is a part of a larger Hispanic Heritage month celebration with El Grito, food and artisan vendors, cultural performances and more.  

Many Latino families face barriers to accessing outdoor recreation, including limited equipment, lack of familiarity with local parks, language barriers, and limited opportunities to participate in culturally welcoming outdoor activities. Our event removes these barriers by providing a free, bilingual, family-centered experience that introduces participants to bike riding and bicycle safety and encourages continued use of Idaho's public spaces. Through conservation education, bicycle safety instruction, helmet distribution, and bicycle giveaways, families will leave with the knowledge, confidence, and equipment needed to enjoy nature beyond the event. By integrating conservation into our Hispanic Heritage Month kickoff celebration, we also demonstrate that caring for our environment is an important part of celebrating our culture and investing in future generations.

Come celebrate our first Latino Conservation Week Celebration, set for September 19, 2026, 10am-3pm, at the Ogden Nature Center. Admission is free, all are welcome. Join us for bilingual bird talks at 10 am and 1 pm, with scavenger hunts with prizes, face painting, crafts, and other activities throughout the day. There will also be a community resource fair, a taco truck, and ice cream!

An ecoregion is a large area of land or water that shares similar climate, soils, geology, and plant and animal communities. It uses natural boundaries instead of political lines to help scientists study and protect the environment. The ongoing militarization of the Texas-Mexico border region - with its interconnected river buoys, extensive multi-layered razor wire, steel bollard walls, and makeshift land blockades - has directly destroyed, fragmented, and degraded native plant and wildlife habitats by scraping away highly biodiverse ecosystems, altering vital river hydrology, paving the way for invasive species, and threatening critically endangered species by cutting off their natural corridors. Without these habitats, wildlife such as the Monarch butterfly and pollinators also lack the space needed for feeding or reproduction.

Una ecorregión es una gran extensión de tierra o agua que comparte características similares en cuanto a clima, suelos, geología y comunidades de plantas y animales. Utiliza límites naturales en lugar de fronteras políticas para facilitar a los científicos el estudio y la protección del medio ambiente. This event is a one-night camping trip designed to provide BIPOC families with hands-on outdoor experiences, including camping skills workshops, interpretive programs, and community-building activities. It aims to remove barriers to outdoor access by offering free gear, meals, bilingual facilitation in English and Spanish and a dedicated affinity space outdoors. Some of the hands-on workshops include fire by friction, fire safety, tent and kitchen setup, guided walks, and games.

Join us for a casual walking tour of Barrio Viejo. 

Discover the art, history, and architecture of one of Tucson's oldest neighborhoods. 

Barrio Viejo is home to one of the largest 19th century adobe communities in the Southwest.  

This is a 0.9 mile stroll from the El Tiradito shrine to Lee Ho's former grocery store. 

It will highlight local history from the Spanish Entrada to territorial status and the arrival of the railroad.

We'll also discuss the impacts of urban renewal and gentrification.

Franklin Lane is a volunteer and former High School teacher and hiking guide. He is a member of the Pima County Master Naturalists and a passionate Southwest, amateur historian. He currently also serves as a docent at the Presidio San Augustin del Tucson.

Exo Roast offers our only real restroom option so if you plan to use it a small purchase or tip is recommended.

• Surface Type: Mostly paved asphalt and concrete city sidewalks.
• Terrain & Slope: Flat urban terrain with minimal elevation changes.
• Path Conditions: Historic neighborhood sidewalks may be narrow, uneven, or feature high curbs. Vehicular traffic is low and minimal at this time.
• Pace: Casual, slow-paced walking stroll with frequent stops to view architecture.
• Shade & Rest: Limited natural shade; historic streets feature open sun exposure.

Join empowerment Ministry for Rooted in Nature, Thriving in Community: Latina Woman's Nature Day, a free Latino Conservation Week event at Rohr Park in Chula Vista. Participants will enjoy a peaceful morning outdoors featuring a short nature walk, conservation education, reflection activities, and lunch will be provided. The event is designed to encourage connection with nature, community, and simple ways to care for the environment. Space is limited to 20 woman and advance online registration is required.

The Salinas River Day Celebration is an invitation to connect intimately with the Salinas River through sensorial experience, close observation, and learning through experiences shared by local organizations, artists, and land stewards who advocate for the Salinas River and its surrounding landscape through their ongoing work.

The intention of the event is to invite the community to relate with the Salinas River, immersing themselves in the river’s nature. This event has been held for the past three years during Latino Conservation Week in the Salinas town area. The goal is to spend the day on a field trip that includes different locations along the river. During the field trip participants will have the opportunity to enjoy a day of recreation, art, exploration and reflection on their public lands. They will also learn from experts (from the different organizations that are part of this partnership) about the history, hydrology, ecology, conservation of the Salinas River and alternative forms of river management focused on nature-based solutions, climate adaptation and environmental justice. Participants will also have a chance to connect with others, building alliances and networks for conservation. Through facilitating these connections we hope to support them as partners and community members by offering a meaningful experience.

The events look to showcase the Salinas River as a biological and cultural landscape. We will invite participants to embrace their role as stewards of public lands, protecting and caring for the river. We want to promote connection and stewardship by highlighting the importance of the river as refuge and corridor for wildlife, and also as refuge for people. We would like to foster in the community stewardship of public lands by reconnecting with nature, learning the language of the river, nurturing the land and the culture, and cultivating a sense of belonging, rootedness, sacredness, and reciprocity with the lands along the river.

The field trip is free. All materials, supplies, and food will be covered for participants to eliminate any financial barriers. We will offer a variety of activities that the public will enjoy, including river diaries, water quality tests, bird watching, plant identification, and scientific illustration. We will highlight the history of the river, endangered and charismatic species, and the ongoing work on protection, conservation and restoration of the Salinas River. We will invite participants to partake in ongoing conservation efforts and become river advocates.

These events promote equity and inclusion by ceding intrinsic value to the Salinas River during our session, taking time to listen to what the landscape needs and desires, and advocating for multi species justice. Prior background knowledge of the Salinas river is not a prerequisite to participate meaningfully in these field trips. We hope to encourage the community to cultivate deep and personal relationships with the Salinas River and landscape, reclaiming the right to belong in and envisioning emerging social systems - communities - around the river. These field trips are an invitation for a diversity of cultures, perspectives, and worldviews to take space in the landscape, surrounding dialogue, and narratives.

Join Bayou City Waterkeeper, FotoFest, and Latino Outdoors for a guided photo walk exploring the connections among water, birds, people, and place.

Participants will walk through Robert C. Stuart Park, an area that provides habitat for resident and migratory birds while also demonstrating how natural and nature-based infrastructure can help manage stormwater, reduce flooding, improve water quality, and support healthier ecosystems.

No photography experience or specialized equipment is required. Participants may use a phone, digital camera, film camera, or simply join the walk to observe. Along the route, guides will invite participants to look closely at the wetland landscape: the movement of water, the plants and wildlife that depend on it, evidence of human intervention, and the relationships connecting the park to the surrounding city.

The program is presented in connection with FotoFest’s fall exhibition, Across the Americas: FotoFest, Latin America and Latino Cultures in the United States. Drawing from the exhibition’s consideration of landscape, territory, identity, history, and extraction, the walk will explore photography as a way to document place, reflect on environmental change, and imagine more reciprocal relationships between people and the natural world.

This event also overlaps with Latino Conservation Week, a national initiative of Hispanic Access Foundation that celebrates Latino communities’ relationships with the outdoors and their leadership in protecting land, water, air, and wildlife. 

Together, participants will consider what becomes visible when we slow down and pay attention, and how images can help us better understand, value, and protect the shared habitats around us. After the walk, participants will be invited to stay for refreshments and a kid-friendly activity station. This event is free with registration.

About Across the Americas: FotoFest, Latin America and Latino Cultures in the United States

FotoFest’s fall 2026 exhibition, Across the Americas: FotoFest, Latin America and Latino Cultures in the United States, explores FotoFest’s long-standing engagement with artists across Latin America and Latino cultures in the U.S. Featuring work by more than forty artists, the exhibition embraces diverse photographic approaches to history, place, imagination, and identity.

Organized into four thematic chapters, Image and the Constructed Self; Memory, Archive, and History; Place, Territory, and Transformation; and Experimental Worlds: Concept and Fiction, the project brings together documentary, conceptual, and experimental practices that illuminate shared histories and cultural dialogues across Latin America and Latino cultures in the U.S.

The galleries will not be organized strictly around medium or geography. Instead, the historical and contemporary works will present a multi-faceted conversation between different times and histories. Unexpected pairings will revisit many of the ways FotoFest has fostered diverse discourse between generations of artists, national histories, and photographic traditions over the past four decades in Latin America and Latino Cultures in the United States.

Join us for the 2nd Annual Latino Land Stewardship celebration! This year we're hosting it on September 12 at 10 am at Trailside Museum of Natural History.

The panel discussion will feature a conversation with Latino land stewards exploring the many ways knowledge and culture shape our relationships with the land. From ecological restoration and conservation work to environmental justice organizing and community advocacy, panelists will share how stewardship is practiced, learned, and passed down.

For this years Latino Conservation Week, Mr. and Mrs. F. L. Schlagle Library is partnering with the Hispanic Access Foundation to offer a fun and artistic way to learn more about monarch butterflies. Come and design a paper butterfly that will be sent over to a classroom in Mexico near the oyamel fir forests. After you submit your colored in butterfly to us, you can take a look at our real live monarch caterpillars/butterflies that we rear in the library!

Takaape’ Waashut Northeast Los Angeles Black Walnut Day is an annual gathering held during harvest season to honor the Southern California Black Walnut as a resilient member of our Indigenous, Latine, Chicanx, migrant and BIPOC community. Black Walnut Day was born out of the struggle against a multimillion dollar development that would have destroyed 110 Black Walnut trees and habitat, as well as threaten 900 nearby tenants with economic displacement. Reclaiming this Land has led to regenerating relationships with the land and Peoples across Northeast Los Angeles.

Tierra y Arboles: El futuro es nuestro is an environmental education workshop developed by New Earth Regeneration Initiative (NERI) that explores the essential relationship between healthy soils, trees, and resilient communities. 

Participants will learn the fundamentals of soil health, the role of organic matter and soil organisms in creating living soils, and how healthy soils support stronger trees, conserve water, store carbon, and help address climate change. The workshop also highlights the importance of native trees, urban forests, and community participation in restoring ecosystems and creating healthier neighborhoods. 

Through engaging discussions and hands on activities participants will discover how small actions such as properly managing organic waste, improving soil quality, and planting trees can contribute to a more sustainable future. 

Volunteers will plant large-stock trees into pre-dug holes; this work will include loosening root balls, filling holes with soil, watering, and spreading mulch around newly planted trees. They will cool and clean the air, provide shade, and beautify the community. 

Stay after the planting for delicious food, great conversation, and time to connect with the community.
