Caminata Nocturna con una Tortuga Marina

Una experiencia única: Una caminata nocturna en la playa para observar el proceso de anidación de una tortuga marina.

Una caminata guiada es un programa único que les permite a nuestros visitantes aprender y observar el proceso de anidación de las tortugas marinas. Con la aprobación de permisos estatales, los observadores de Loggerhead Marinelife Center patrullan la playa de Juno Beach para buscar a las tortugas mientras los visitantes disfrutan de una presentación informativa. El evento será de 9:00 p.m. a 12:00 a.m.

Este año estaremos participando en Latino Conservation Week 2022: Una iniciativa de Hispanic Access Foundation, creada para apoyar la participación de la  comunidad Latina en actividades al aire libre y actividades que ayuden a proteger nuestros recursos naturales. Nuestra participación será una presentación en español gratuita. Para esta actividad solamente podemos acomodar a 30 participantes, que tendrán que registrarse en línea. El link para registrarse es:

Los niños deberán ser mayores de 10 años para poder asistir y todos los participantes deben poder caminar en la playa. (Contamos con silla de ruedas para playa).

No existe ninguna relación entre la actividad de anidación de una tortuga marina con la fase de la luna, el tiempo o la marea. Todas las noches tenemos la misma probabilidad de ver una tortuga aunque no podemos garantizar que veremos una esa noche.

Evening Turtle Walks: Latino Conservation Week

Take a once in a lifetime walk with sea turtles.

A Turtle Walk is a unique program that allows our visitors to learn about and observe the nesting and egg-laying process of sea turtles. With the approval of State issued permits, experienced Loggerhead Marinelife Center scouts will patrol our designated section of Juno Beach searching for sea turtles while visitors enjoy an informative presentation on the plight of sea turtles. This event will be from 9:00 p.m. -12:00 a.m.

This year we will be participating in Latino Conservation Week 2022: A Hispanic Access Foundation initiative created to support the Latino community getting into the outdoors and participating in activities to protect our natural resources. We will offer a free Turtle Walk in Spanish. We can only accommodate 30 people. Children must be 10 years or older to attend walks and all participants must be able to walk up to half a mile. Join us for a fun family friendly scavenger hunt with the Audubon Society as we celebrate Latino Conservation Week with new friends! Lead Naturalist Ed Dominguez from the Seward Park Audubon Society will take us on a guided bird walk with binoculars. Enjoy activities, lunch from a local Latinx business, music, and learn about other local community environmental organizations to spark your interests. Folks who identify as Latine/a/o or Afro Latino/a/e as well as friends, family, and allies are welcome. FREE lunch and materials will be provided. Spanish translation will be available. 
 
For your safety, please bring:

-Warm layers or sun protection

In honor of Latino Conservation Week. Our Juntos families (see program information below) will be taking a hike at Almaden Quicksilver County Park to learn about the Park's rich mining history and the key role that Latino miners played in the success of California Gold Rush. Families will also learn about the importance of conservation.  Our event includes a hike, picnic, Plant-a-Seed activity and a short presentation from a local non-profit called "Our City Forest" who's mission is to cultivate a green and healthy Silicon Valley by engaging community members in the appreciation, protection, growth and maintenance of the urban ecosystem, especially the urban forest.

Overview of Santa Clara County Juntos Initiative

The partnership between healthcare providers and park and environmental organizations is focused on working together and making the outdoors more inclusive and accessible. Through this partnership, which includes the City of San Jose, Veggielution, Santa Clara County Parks, Santa Clara County Public Health teams; and the dedicated providers at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center this initiative seeks to promote the health benefits of the outdoors.

The Juntos Initiative is comprised of the following three components:

1) Quarterly Park Activities (quarterly activities range from nature hikes to gardening)

2) Capitanes del Bosque (youth volunteer program)

3) Promotores (parent leadership program)

Participating Providers and Participants

Santa Clara Valley Medical Center pediatricians prescribe parks to pediatric patients and their families. Santa Clara County Public Health provides program coordination. Some key data points:

• Most participants are medi-cal recipients and greatly benefit from the physical activity and community connections made at park activities.
• Many participants are bilingual Spanish and programming is provided in Spanish/or interpretation is provided
• Over 1500 participants will be served by this program over a 3-year period.
• Most participants attend multiple walks each quarter

Each quarter 6 to 8 activities are coordinated at parks and outdoor venues for children and their families. Pediatricians attend park activities with their patients which has had a huge impact on patient health. Currently, we work closely with a Champion Provider, Dr. Laurie Cammon at the Pediatric Healthy Lifestyle Center, and her team with plans to invite other pediatric providers to write park prescriptions soon.

Join Great River Greening and Dakota County Parks as we come together to celebrate National Public Lands Day at Lebanon Hills Regional Park. Together, we will plant native prairie grasses and wildflowers furthering restoration efforts throughout this beautiful park. 

National Public Lands Day has been celebrated by the National Forest Service for 25 years and Great River Greening is proud to partner with Dakota County in promoting stewardship at Lebanon Hills Regional Park. It is a day where huge impacts are made by volunteers all across the country to improve and enjoy forests and grasslands. These volunteer contributions are incredibly valuable to public lands. 

This is a family-friendly event. Volunteers of all ages and backgrounds are encouraged to attend. No previous knowledge or experience is necessary, we will provide the tools and training required.

We will have light snacks and extra water available, however, please bring your own reusable water bottle and any additional snacks or lunch items you may need. Additional food and activities may be provided. Details to come!

Great River Greening engages thousands of volunteers each year in hands-on restoration, environmental conservation, and community-science-based programming. Our volunteer events are held throughout Minnesota, primarily in the Twin Cities metro, the Anoka Sand Plain of central Minnesota, as well as throughout Southern Minnesota and the Brainerd Lakes Area.

Join the ranks of our dedicated Volunteer Supervisor team as we expand restoration work in Minnesota. Volunteer Supervisors will gain beneficial leadership and restoration skills and are expected to assist at one (or more!) restoration events during the spring and fall each year.

Lead and motivate event participants in habitat restoration with Great River Greening - Become a Volunteer Supervisor!
Volunteer Supervisors lead small groups of 5-20 volunteers at hands-on restoration events. Activities often include planting native grasses and forbs, tree and shrub planting, as well as invasive and exotic plant control and broadcast seeding.

Join Mason Conservation District for Latino Conservation Week! We are hosting a Guided Kayak Tour to Hope Island State Park, Saturday, July 23rd! The event is open to all Latino teens and their families in Mason County, however SPACE IS LIMITED! It will be from 11am - 2pm and is FREE! Latino Conservation Week was created with the goal of supporting and getting our community into the outdoors and participating in activities to protect our natural resources. People of color are greatly unrepresented and excluded in the outdoors due to the lack of accessibility. Environmental conservation comes in so many forms.
