Caminata Nocturna con una Tortuga Marina

Una caminata guiada es un programa único que les permite a nuestros visitantes aprender y observar el proceso de anidación de las tortugas marinas. Con la aprobación de permisos estatales, los observadores de Loggerhead Marinelife Center patrullan la playa de Juno Beach para buscar a las tortugas mientras los visitantes disfrutan de una presentación informativa. El evento será de 9:00 p.m. a 12:00 a.m.

Los niños deberán ser mayores de 10 años para poder asistir y todos los participantes deben sentirse cómodos de caminar en la playa, contamos con una silla de ruedas para playa. Por favor comunicar si la necesita.

No existe ninguna relación entre la actividad de anidación de una tortuga marina con la fase de la luna, el tiempo o la marea. Todas las noches tenemos la misma probabilidad de ver una tortuga aunque no podemos garantizar que veremos una esa noche.

Hike Juntos e Intercambio de idiomas

Join us for a hike and English-Spanish language exchange at Sky Meadows State Park on Saturday, July 15th. We will enjoy a 2.5 mile (4 km) stroll through meadow and forest while making new friends and practicing our language skills.

Únase a nosotros para una caminata e intercambio de inglés-español en el Parque Estatal Sky Meadow el sábado 15 de julio. Disfrutaremos un paseo de 2.5 millas (4 km) por el prado y el bosque mientras hacemos nuevos amigos y practicamos nuestras habilidades lingüísticas.

Amigas Hike

Join us for our Amigas Hike to connect with nature, and community. Family-friendly and fur baby friendly. It's free and open to all ages and levels.

What to bring:

  • Wear hiking or athletic shoes
  • Bring water, and snacks (example: fruit, trail mix)
  • Hat or sunglasses (we will be outside!)
  • Dress comfortably with layers to be ready for physical activity in mild LA weather
  • If needed, walking/hiking stick

What to do the Day Before and the Morning of:

  • Hydrate the day before! Drink lots of water the day before so that you are hydrated for the hike.
  • Eat breakfast in the morning! Make sure to eat a nourishing breakfast the morning of- think fruit, oatmeal, nut butters, smoothies, etc

More Details and Information

  • If you’re bringing folks with you who are not signed up please have them sign up on our scheduling platform
  • If you’re bringing a little human, it’s doable with a jogging stroller or a baby carrier
  • Dogs on leashes are welcome for the hike!
  • If you are interested in learning more about plants, the Seek by iNaturalist app is a great one to download. You can take pictures of plants, animals, and insects and find out their names, species, country of origin, etc… There are so many blooming plants out there right now!

Veggie Mijas Farm Service Day at DC Greens, The Well at Oxon Run

Veggie Mijas DC Chapter will be hosting our members at DC Greens' educational and intergenerational farm, The Well at Oxon Run for Latino Conservation Week! Chapter members, as well as anyone apart of our DMV community, will be able to join the staff from The Well to help support overall grounds & field maintenance, a creek clean up at Oxon Run Creek, get a tour of farm, and join the Veggie Mijas DC Chapter organizers for a plant-based soul catered lunch from Elife

We will begin with getting to know each other, give offerings and gratitude to the Piscataway land The Well lives on, and have a tour of the space before we get our hands connected to the land. Event will be held held Saturday, July 15th 12-2:30pm. Please arrive a bit early because we will promptly start at 12:00pm! 

Please come dressed with sneakers you don't mind getting dirty or work boots. We suggest you wear long sleeves or bring sunscreen because The Well is outdoors, with ample amount of shade with take breaks! Bring a full water bottle but water bottles will be available on site. 

There is bathroom (porta-johns) on the site. 

Parking is free at The Well at Oxon Run. If you are traveling by bus or metro, the bus stops are the A2 and W1 on Atlantic St SE & Valley Ave SE  or the Congress Heights Metro Station.

Beginners Camping Workshop

California Citrus State Historic Park alongside Latino Outdoors - Inland Empire are hosting a beginners camping workshop for families. There will be two sessions in which participants will learn the basics they will need to know when planning their first camping trip. There will be a hands on camping demonstration as well as a leave no trace informational session.

Este evento familiar tendrá dos sesiones donde los participantes aprenderán los básicos necesarios para campar. Va ver una demustra de campamento y una sesión informativa de no dejar rastro en lugares silvestres.

Miercoles de Mariposas/Butterfly Wednesday

Español: ¡Las mariposas monarca necesitan nuestra ayuda! Haremos proyecciones de Vuelo de la Mariposas, un documental de 45 minutos centrado en la mariposa monarca, en el Auditorio del Centro de Visitantes. Las funciones comenzarán a las 10:00 am, 10:45 am, 12:00 pm, 12:45 pm, 1:30 pm, 2:15 pm, and 3:00 pm. Tendremos materiales para el origami en forma de monarca que puedes llevar a casa o dejar para decorar el Centro de Visitantes. Los visitantes también nos ayudarán a separar las vainas de algodoncillo en semillas que luego se plantarán en el Refugio para ayudar a las monarcas en sus viajes de México a Canadá.

 

English: Monarch butterflies need our help! We will do screenings of Flight of the Butterflies, a 45 min monarch butterfly-focused documentary, at the Visitor Center's Auditorium. Showings will start at 10:00 am, 10:45 am, 12:00 pm, 12:45 pm, 1:30 pm, 2:15 pm, and 3:00 pm. We will have  materials for monarch-shaped origami that you can take home or leave behind to decorate the Visitor Center. Visitors will also help us sort milkweed pods into seeds that then will be planted at the Refuge to help monarchs on their journeys from Mexico to Canada.

<p>Native Milkweed Giveaway! held at Willow Springs Park 2745 Orange Ave, Long Beach, CA 90806 on July 15th 9am-12pm. Three mini-classes will be held at 9am, 10am, and 11am. You do not have to stay for the mini-class to pick up milkweed, but only those who have registered are guaranteed milkweed plants. Each family / person will receive a minimum of 5 plants. Para ayudar a preservar las mariposas monarcas, estaremos regalando 5 o más plantas de algodoncillo a cada familia.También tendremos clases cortas y actividades de arte.
