Sequoia campout

Save the Redwoods League seeks to nourish relationships with Central Valley Latino communities and support their wellbeing by providing opportunities for meaningful redwoods experiences. Therefore, in partnership with community-based organization, LEAP (Latino Equity, Advocacy & Policy) Institute, we will engage community members with the opportunity to recreate, learn and camp overnight at Save the Redwoods League acquired and protected Alder Creek property and participate in a stewardship activity in support of Giant Sequoia Forest conservation.

Our main objectives are to provide access to Alder Creek and offer relevant, engaging outdoor education and stewardship activities to enrich their forest experience and demonstrate the Latino community’s commitment to conservation. This will include an interactive hike to the Stagg tree, the 5th largest tree in the world, led by our restoration staff, and a small stewardship activity that benefits our restoration work at Alder Creek Grove.

The program will be delivered in partnership between the League’s Parks & Community Engagement & Restoration programs and LEAP (Latino Equity, Advocacy & Policy) Institute, a community-based organization serving the San Joaquin Valley. LEAP (Latino Equity, Advocacy & Policy) Institute engages communities to increase social justice awareness, strengthen grassroots leadership for the empowerment of Latinos, immigrants, farmworkers and youth to achieve environmentally sustainable justice while improving the economy and community health.
