Celebrate Latino Conservation Week at a Volunteer Planting Event!

Join The Nature Conservancy for a volunteer planting event at the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse Outstanding Natural Area!

The Nature Conservancy invites you to join us at our bunkhouse at the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse Outstanding Natural Area for a volunteer planting event to celebrate Latino Conservation Week! We’ll spend the morning planting native plants, managing invasive species, and restoring the site’s maritime hammock habitat.

Advance registration is required for this event.

No experience is needed. Recommended for ages 8 and up, but all are welcome.

Conditions may be hot, sunny, and humid. Biting or stinging insects may be present. All participants should wear comfortable clothes and may prefer long pants and/or shirts to protect their skin. Sunscreen, bug spray, and a hat are recommended. Closed toe shoes are required. Don’t forget to pack a refillable water bottle!

Water, snacks, work gloves, and all tools will be provided by The Nature Conservancy.

Staff will meet volunteers at the entrance of the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse Outstanding Natural Area at 8:15 a.m. to complete volunteer waivers, provide a welcome and an overview to the activity.

Cancellations: If the volunteer event needs to be cancelled due to weather or low registration, volunteers will be notified via email the day prior.

Big Sur Land Trust se complace en celebrar la Semana de la Conservación Latina con una caminata en español para observar aves y otras vidas silvestres en Marks Ranch. Este evento es apropiado para principiantes y todos aquellos interesados ​​en aprender cómo identificar mejor nuestras aves locales. Después de nuestra caminata de observación de aves, disfrutaremos de un picnic en el jardín de la Hacienda de Marks Ranch. Se proporcionará un refrigerio para el desayuno, un almuerzo ligero y bebidas.

Ubicado junto a la autopista 68, justo al norte de Toro Park, Marks Ranch lleva el nombre de Benjamin y Nisene Marks (que dan nombre al parque estatal), y una vez fue un rancho de producción de huevos. El terreno y muchas de las características originales ahora son preservados por Big Sur Land Trust. Aprenderemos sobre las aves, la historia natural y la historia humana de esta propiedad única.

Join us to pick up trash along the trail toward the Jump Creek Waterfall In an effort to help keep our parks and communities clean. We’ll provide trash bags, gloves and trash pickers as well as light snacks and water.

Date and Time: Friday, September 20 from 8:00 - 10:30 AM

Registration: Please reserve your spot by contacting program lead via text to 208-242-4476. This program is capped at 20 participants.

Meet Us: Meet at Chevron in Marsing by 8:00 AM so everyone can drive there together (approximately 15 minute drive.)

What to Bring: Water and closed-toed shoes (no sandals)

Accessibility: Ample parking, limited accessibility due to terrain, bathrooms located near parking area.

Bring a friend, bring 5, bring your brother, bring your mom…on this exploratory hiking trip we will hike up the ever popular, very rewarding, at times steep, Table Rock Trail to the top view point AND we will explore the lesser known Quarry Loop Trail to make a full loop.

What to Bring: Wear sturdy (tennis/hiking) shoes & comfortable clothing. A small pack to carry water, snacks, sunscreen & any other personal belongings is recommended.

Accessibility: Trail is 3.5 miles with 885 ft of elevation gain & rated moderately challenging on the AllTrails site. Parking and restrooms are located at the trailhead.

Accesibilidad: La ruta es de 3.5 millas con 885 pies de desnivel y está clasificado como moderadamente difícil en el sitio de AllTrails. El estacionamiento y los baños están ubicados al comienzo del sendero.

Participate in a Learn to Fish Clinic

Learn how to fish for free at an upcoming sport fishing clinic organized and conducted by DEC and numerous other organizations. In addition to casting a rod and catching fish, participants can learn about fish identification, fishing equipment and techniques, fisheries management, angling ethics, aquatic ecology, and more!

During these clinics no freshwater fishing license or enrollment in the recreational marine fishing registry is required*, but all other statewide freshwater fishing regulations and saltwater fishing regulations remain in effect (*Kids under 16 can always fish for free!).

• Meet at Sherman Elementary School (301 22nd St, San Diego, CA 92102) at 8:30 AM for a fun and easy 1.5-mile ride to Memorial Community Park. We’ll roll out at 9:00 AM sharp, so bring your bike and join the ride!
• Need to borrow a bicycle? Let us know ahead of time on your online registration form, and we will provide a bike for you to use during the ride.
• 10am-2pm
• On-Bike Rodeo: Kids can test their biking skills in a safe and fun environment.
• Bounce House/Jumper: Let the little ones enjoy some playtime.
• Lunch: Enjoy a delicious meal with fellow community members.
