Vamos Pa'fuera a Plantar with GALEO and Latinxhikers at the E.M.B.A.R.C. Community Youth Farm! Join us on Saturday, September 14, 2024 from 10AM- 2PM for some fun on the farm!

 Bring the whole family for a day filled with learning how the Earth pours into us, and taking time to pour back in with gratitude.

 We will begin with a tour of EMBARC where we will see their community garden, greenhouse, pollinator garden, forest & trail system, and beehives. We'll then have lunch together (provided by GALEO) as we learn from Park Naturalist Jennifer McLaurin, Ed Morgan from Bean's Bees and Honey, and Susan Meyers from Monarchs Across Georgia. We'll then finish the day with small service projects to support EMBARC with garden and trail maintenance.

Join us for a special screening of Beyond Borders: Tales of Monarcas, Rivers and Two Nations, a documentary film highlighting four Latino leaders throughout the country, whose livelihoods depend on natural resources, like clean air and water. Those natural resources—especially those stemming from the Mississippi River and greater watershed—are in danger from climate change, pollution, overuse, and nature loss. Learn more about the stake Latinos (and monarchs, to whom they are deeply connected) have in the health of the Mississippi River watershed, the threats it faces, and the solutions communities can take part in. A moderated panel discussion follows.

Join Saved by Nature, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Visionary Arts, and more to celebrate Latino Conservation Week at the Salinas River National Wildlife Refuge right outside of Castroville, CA. We will offer guided wildlife hikes as we explore the coastal dunes and beach as well as a fun family painting session where you will learn about the endangered snowy plover. There will also be an opportunity to learn about various partners and what they have to offer through tabling activities. We will end the day with a free lunch along the beach! Join us at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area for a special celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month and Latino Conservation Week! "Día en la Naturaleza: Hike, Storytime, and Picnic" is a free, family-friendly event featuring a guided hike through the scenic Red Spring Picnic Area, a craft activity inspired by Hispanic culture, and a bilingual story time. Bring your lunch and plenty of water to enjoy a relaxing picnic hour at the Red Spring Pavilion. All ages are welcome!

Location: Red Spring Picnic Area, Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. The picnic area is adjacent to the Red Spring Boardwalk in the Calico Basin Area and not inside the Scenic Loop.

What to Wear: Dress comfortably for outdoor activities. We recommend wearing sturdy hiking shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, and bringing a hat and sunscreen.

Bring: Lunch for the picnic hour with lots of water. Space is limited so feel free to bring outdoor chairs or blankets.

Connect with nature through painting, a native plant walk, and an opportunity to add observations on iNaturalist during this free, bilingual (English/Spanish) family event “Pintura, Plantitas, y Charla” happening at Tijuana Slough National Wildlife Refuge on Sunday, September 15 from 8:00 am to 10:30 am. Special guest, Dr. Mariana Delgado Fernandez from Expediciones Botanicas will come from Baja California and lead the native plant walk. This event is also supported by the San Diego Natural History Museum, San Diego Audubon Society, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and naturalist Hector Valtierra. An RSVP is highly recommended. Join us as we explore the watershed at the Tijuana River Regional Park. During this bilingual guided walk, you will learn about the plants, animals, and communities that live along the watershed and depend on clean air and water. Casa Familiar, San Diego Coastkeeper, San Diego Natural History Museum, Living Coast Discovery Center, County of San Diego Parks and Recreation, the Tijuana River National Estuarine Research Reserve, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will facilitate and support this walk.

No pets will be allowed on the hike.
