Christian Education Week + Latino Conservation Week
This year, our Christian Education Week celebration will be connected with Latino Conservation Week, creating an opportunity for faith, education, science, and care for creation to come together in meaningful and practical ways.
Under the theme “Faithfulness That Shapes Generations,” we will focus on the affirmation “Inspired by His Faithfulness.” God’s faithfulness forms us, sustains us, and guides us. In response, we are called to live with purpose and to responsibly care for the creation He has entrusted to us.
The experience will include four interactive stations designed to engage both our students and faculty, with the Science Department and science classes playing an important role in connecting faith, learning, environmental awareness, and action.
Four Interactive Stations
1. Care for Our Coasts
An educational station focused on beach and coastal conservation, the impact of waste and pollution, and practical ways we can help protect marine ecosystems.
2. Light Matters
A station centered on light pollution and its impact on wildlife, helping participants understand how artificial light can affect animal behavior, habitats, and natural ecosystems.
3. Plant with Purpose
Participants will have the opportunity to plant a seed or small plant as a symbol of stewardship, growth, responsibility, and hope for future generations.
4. Inspired by Creation
An art-based station where participants can draw or create something inspired by God’s creation, connecting creativity, reflection, and environmental awareness.
The goal is for each station to go beyond sharing information and encourage a practical response: to learn, care, create, and act.
Native Plant Nursery Community Volunteer Day // Vivero de Plantas Nativas Dia de Voluntaria

Celebrate community, culture, and conservation at our special volunteer day at the Ascot Hills Native Plant Nursery in East Los Angeles! In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month and Latino Conservation Week, we’re coming together to care for our local ecosystem, honor our connections to the land, and celebrate our vibrant community. Whether you’re an experienced gardener or brand new to plant care, everyone is welcome to get their hands in the soil.
?️ What You'll Do
- Native Plant Care: Pot, propagate, and care for native plant species.
- Nursery Maintenance: Organize, weed, and water native saplings and flora.
- Black Walnut Processing: Process black walnuts from husk to seed (which we will later use for natural clothing dyes!).
- Learning: Discover how native plant propagation, habitat restoration, and equitable green access build a climate-resilient California.
☕ Refresments & Treats
Volunteers will be welcomed with authentic café de olla and pan dulce at check-in, and we'll wrap up the workday with freshly cut fruit with Tajín and native plant-inspired aguas frescas! (Available on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last.)

- Attire: Comfortable clothes you don't mind getting dirty, plus sturdy, closed-toe shoes.
- Sun Protection: Hat and sunscreen are highly recommended.
- Hydration: Reusable water bottle.

- Cuidado de Plantas Nativas: Trasplantar, propagar y cuidar especies de plantas nativas.
- Mantenimiento del Vivero: Ayudar a organizar, desmalezar y regar árboles jóvenes y flora nativa.
- Procesamiento de Nogal Negro: Procesar nogales negros quitando la semilla de la cáscara (¡que luego usaremos para hacer tinte para ropa!).
- Aprendizaje: Descubre cómo la propagación de plantas nativas, la restauración del hábitat y el acceso equitativo a la naturaleza construyen una California más resiliente.

Created to Connect: A Latino Young Adult Camping Experience
Event Description: Created to Connect is a one-night camping experience designed for Latino young adults ages 18–30 to connect with nature and build community. From September 12–13 at YMCA Snow Mountain Ranch, participants will explore Colorado’s natural spaces through outdoor recreation, conservation education, and hands-on activities. Together, we will learn about responsible recreation, caring for our environment, and protecting public lands for future generations. No previous camping experience is necessary—first-time campers are welcome!

Colorado River Rafting Trip, September 13, 9:00 AM–3:00 PM
As part of Latino Conservation Week, we’ll be offering two rafting adventure options through Glenwood Canyon on September 13: a calm float, perfect for those who want to enjoy the river and scenery at a relaxed pace, or a more adventurous experience with rapids and a little more excitement. Pick your adventure!
Spanish interpretation will be available, and we’ll have a meal together in Glenwood Springs after the trip. Spots are limited — register soon!
Note: The minimum age for this activity is 6 years old.
Fishing on Public Lands, September 17–18, 5:00–6:30 PM
In partnership with Garfield County Libraries, join us for a two-part fishing experience designed especially for those who want to learn about the sport and enjoy it in community. On the first day, we’ll learn where, when, and how to fish—from the basics to tips that will help you feel more prepared on the water. On the second day, we’ll put what we’ve learned into practice during a community fishing day at Lions Pond in Rifle, with guidance from instructors and all the equipment you’ll need. No prior experience or personal equipment is necessary. Bring the family if you’d like!
Spanish interpretation will be available, and after our fishing day in Rifle, we’ll share a meal together as a community.
Stewardship Day at Linwood Cemetery /Doc Holiday's Trail
For the fourth year in a row, RFOV, Defiende Nuestra Tierra, and the City of Glenwood Springs are coming together to celebrate Latino Conservation Week with a fully bilingual conservation day at Linwood Cemetery (Doc Holliday’s Trail).
Join us as we care for this historic site while working together to improve trails, restore the landscape with native seeds and pine straw, remove invasive species, and improve the sustainability of the area. It’s an opportunity to learn, give back, and enjoy our public lands together as a community!
Spanish interpretation will be available, and we’ll share a meal together in Glenwood Springs afterward.

Elings Park Landscape Transformation Nature Walk: Birds, Burritos, and Native Plants
Join us for a fun, family-friendly celebration of Latino Conservation Week! Together with Santa Barbara Botanic Garden, Latino Outdoors, Wilderness Youth Project, and Los Padres Forest Watch, we'll explore the amazing plants, animals, and insects that call our local environment home. This free bilingual and bicultural event is open to all ages and is a great opportunity to connect with nature, learn something new, and spend time with your community. Registration is required as there is a 50-person limit for this event.
The event takes place at Elings Park in Santa Barbara, where you'll receive a brief lesson on local biodiversity efforts, a nature zine created by the Botanic Garden, and meet 4 local organizations doing conservation work in the region. We'll also take a short, easy walk (about 15 minutes) to a nearby native plant restoration site, where you'll see how restoring local habitats helps birds, bees, butterflies, and other wildlife thrive. You'll participate in a native seed collection effort and also see how native plants differ from their non-native counterparts. Along the way, you'll discover simple ways we can all help protect the natural places around us. You'll leave the event with your very own native plant to take home and care for!!
Please bring a hat, a reusable water bottle, comfortable walking shoes, and a sense of curiosity. Whether you're new to exploring the outdoors or already love spending time in nature, we look forward to sharing this experience with you and your family.
Coffee and pan-dulce will be served in the morning and burritos from Del Pueblo Cafe will be provided for lunch.
Bird Box Making and Walk at Apopka Birding Park for Latino Conservation Week
Latinos throughout Central Florida are invited to celebrate Latino Conservation Week with Orange Audubon and partners.
Activities will be constructing bird nest boxes and taking a walk at the Apopka Birding Park, a restoration site located at the entrance to the Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive.
Date is Saturday, September 12th. Time is 8:30 to 11 am.

Dress in closed toe shoes and long pants and bring your own water. We will have some cold water onsite.
Our bird box making is supported by a Latino Conservation Week grant from Hispanic Access Foundation.
Historias Que Nos Conectan: Honrando Nuestra Historia Kick-Off Event
Join us as we kick off FPAN's Honrando Nuestra Historia (HNH) with a free community celebration at Mound House! Honrando Nuestra Historia celebrates Florida’s Latine/x heritage and the connections between our communities, history, archaeology, culture, and the natural environment.
In celebration of Latino Conservation Week, this family-friendly event invites visitors to explore local heritage, connect with community organizations, and discover the many ways people and place are connected.
Museum admission will be FREE for the day, with activities and opportunities to explore throughout the event, including:

- Opportunities to meet and connect with local organizations

San Joaquin River Parkway Passport
Join the San Joaquin River Conservancy and our partners in a week of events and activities to get the community engaged and active in the outdoors.
The week starts on Saturday September 13th with a Cochinil Making Workshop featuring Teaching artists from Arte Américas.
