Spend an afternoon with us at the nature park and discover what it takes to be a nature superhero! We will have activities for the whole family to enjoy!
The Tualatin Hills Nature Center is partnering with local Latine-owned businesses and organizations to host a FREE party in celebration of Latino Conservation Week and Welcoming Week. We will have a Live band, DJ, Food Vendor (first 100 people will get a voucher to spend), a raffle with great prizes, guided hikes, crafts and so much more.

LCW Adventure Day!
Join Sierra Nevada Alliance and Luis Rubio on this day of adventure in celebration of Latino Conservation Week! Participants in this bilingual event can expect a day full of adventure, learning, and community. Scheduled activities for the day include rafting, a picnic, and a guided hike around Donner Lake. Are you a first-time rafter!? No problem! Experienced staff will guide the experience. Expect to raft for 45-60 minutes while learning about the history of Donner Lake Memorial State Park and its importance to California and U.S. history. During the guided hike, you will travel on a relatively flat path around the lake, learning about historical uses of native plants, trees, and mushrooms, or you can remain at the picnic area for community-building games and activities.
This is a free, family-friendly event meant to combine community, adventure, and education! Lunch will be provided. Parking will be free. Tickets are very limited, so please only reserve if you are definitely joining us (one ticket per person). Waivers must be signed on the day of the event to participate. Register here.

Summer Saturdays at Houston Botanic Garden: Latino Conservation Week Kick-Off
LCW — Sept. 12-20, 2026 — is a national initiative created by the Hispanic Access Foundation to connect Latino communities with the outdoors and inspire long-term stewardship of our land, water, and air. By partnering with local spaces like the Garden, LCW works to dismantle historical barriers to outdoor recreation, celebrate the community’s deep cultural ties to nature, and elevate Latino voices in environmental advocacy. Non-member ticket price: $12/adult, $8/child/student/senior/military
Member ticket price: Free, per the benefit(s) of membership level
For an additional fee of $8 each, attendees can choose to take part in an hour-long yoga session (led by Jose Portillo) and/or an hour-long Zumba session (led by Sandi Morales).
Houston Botanic Garden offers free parking for Summer Saturdays programs.
5:00-6:00 p.m. – Viyasa Flow with Jose Portillo
Flow classes tend to be geared towards those that enjoy movement and the challenge of pushing yourself to new limits. Jose firmly believes in connecting the physical practice with the roots and philosophy of yoga, while at the same time getting participants connected to their bodies and finding their physical and internal growth. The event will feature a wide variety of musical genres (tribal, pop, Latin, classical, EDM, hip hop, R&B, rock, and current hits). Participants should bring their own mat, towel(s), and a refillable water bottle.
With certifications in vinyasa, meditation, trauma-informed yoga and yin/restorative training, Jose Portillo has a passion for creating experiences and spaces for people to meet themselves through movement and breath. The yoga practice has given him the tools to live a life that is authentic, intuitive, and powerfully connected to his purpose. His greatest desire is for others to find the same through his teachings of the practice. By connecting to that which gives us life, this practice of honoring the breath and the body by way of yoga asanas (postures) and pranayama (breath practice) helps us better connect to all the amazing things available to us here and now. More importantly, this practice offers us the freedom and the empowerment to seek our physical, mental, and spiritual growth.
6:30-7:30 p.m. Zumba with Sandi Morales
Sandi Morales is a Houston-area fitness instructor with a passion for Latin dance, movement, and community-centered wellness. In addition to teaching Zumba classes across the greater Houston region, she shares choreography, dance content, and performance videos on her YouTube channel, “SalsaSheek1,” where she highlights her love for salsa and Latin-inspired fitness. Known for creating upbeat, inclusive environments, Sandi combines fitness and dance to help people build confidence, stay active, and enjoy movement in a social setting. Her classes and online content emphasize fun, rhythm, and self-expression, making dance accessible to students of varying experience levels.

Descubra el arte, la historia y la arquitectura de uno de los barrios más antiguos de Tucson.
El Barrio Viejo alberga una de las mayores concentraciones de construcciones de adobe del siglo XIX en el suroeste de los Estados Unidos.
Se trata de un paseo de 0,9 millas (aprox. 1,4 km) que va desde el santuario de El Tiradito hasta la antigua tienda de comestibles de Lee Ho.
El recorrido destacará la historia local, desde la expedición española hasta la época del territorio y la llegada del ferrocarril.
También hablaremos sobre el impacto de la renovación urbana y la gentrificación.

- Tipo de superficie: Principalmente aceras o banquetas urbanas pavimentadas con asfalto y concreto.
- Terreno y pendiente: Terreno urbano plano con cambios de elevación mínimos.
- Estado del camino: Las aceras o bbanquetas del barrio histórico pueden ser estrechas, irregulares o tener bordillos altos. El tráfico vehicular es bajo o mínimo a esa hora.
- Ritmo: Paseo tranquilo y pausado, con paradas frecuentes para observar la arquitectura.

Join us for a casual walking tour of Barrio Viejo.
Discover the art, history, and architecture of one of Tucson's oldest neighborhoods.
Barrio Viejo is home to one of the largest 19th century adobe communities in the Southwest.
This is a 0.9 mile stroll from the El Tiradito shrine to Lee Ho's former grocery store.
It will highlight local history from the Spanish Entrada to territorial status and the arrival of the railroad.
We'll also discuss the impacts of urban renewal and gentrification.

Mely Bohlman is a bilingual (ENG/SPAN) Environmental Education Program Specialist for Pima County Conservation Lands and Resources.
Franklin Lane is a volunteer and former High School teacher and hiking guide. He is a member of the Pima County Master Naturalists and a passionate Southwest, amateur historian. He currently also serves as a docent at the Presidio San Augustin del Tucson.

We'll meet in front of the Exo Roast/ Bar Crisol located at 196 W. Simpson St.
Exo Roast offers our only real restroom option so if you plan to use it a small purchase or tip is recommended.
There is plenty of non-metered parking in the area.
Accessibility & Trail Description
- Surface Type: Mostly paved asphalt and concrete city sidewalks.
- Terrain & Slope: Flat urban terrain with minimal elevation changes.
- Path Conditions: Historic neighborhood sidewalks may be narrow, uneven, or feature high curbs. Vehicular traffic is low and minimal at this time.
- Pace: Casual, slow-paced walking stroll with frequent stops to view architecture.
- Shade & Rest: Limited natural shade; historic streets feature open sun exposure.

Great Sierra River Cleanup
The Great Sierra River Cleanup is back! GSRC is a Sierra-wide watershed cleanup event coordinated by Sierra Nevada Alliance in collaboration with California’s Coastal Cleanup Day. 46,201 volunteers removed 398,654 pounds (199 tons) of trash from the Sierra Nevada waterways and across the state’s entire coastline. Learn more about the impact and history of the event here.
We will spend the morning picking up litter at our Clementine Beach Preserve and at the connected Upper Lake Clementine Beach area. Lunch will be provided at the end of the day. You are welcome to spend time at the public beach along the river after the cleanup, but please note that the river is fast and cold.

Llamado a los altruistas: Cuidado de árboles y limpieza del parque en Star K Ranch / Altruists Assemble: Tree Care & Park Cleanup at Star K Ranch
Únase a Aurora Water y la división de Parques, Recreación y Espacios Abiertos de la Ciudad de Aurora en Star K Ranch mientras celebramos la Semana de la Conservación Latina manteniendo un ambiente natural saludable. En este evento familiar, los participantes ayudarán a preservar las cubierta arbórea aplicando pintura que previene la mascada de castor y mantendrán arroyos saludables limpiando la basura. Nuestros esfuerzos beneficiarán a la naturaleza, el agua, las plantas y la vida silvestre. Por favor, use pantalones largos y zapatos cerrados. Se ofrecerán aperitivos y agua. Una vez finalizada la labor de voluntariado a las 11:00 a. m., podrá explorar el parque, la nueva zona de exploración de la naturaleza, los senderos y el centro de naturaleza, además de participar en diversas actividades. El evento es gratuito.

Join Aurora Water and City of Aurora’s Parks, Recreation, and Open Space division at Star K Ranch as we celebrate Latino Conservation Week by sustaining a healthy natural environment. In this family-friendly event, participants will assist to preserve tree canopy by applying beaver chew paint and maintain good stream health by trash cleanup. Our efforts will give back to nature, water, plants, and animals. Please bring pants and closed-toe shoes. Snacks and water will be provided. Once the volunteer work is done at 11 am, feel free to explore the park, NEW nature exploration area, trails, nature center, and partake in activities.
Takaape' Waashut NELA Black Walnut Day; Takaape' Waashut Día del Nogal Negro en el Noreste de Los Ángeles
Takaape’ Waashut Northeast Los Angeles Black Walnut Day is an annual gathering held during harvest season to honor the Southern California Black Walnut as a resilient member of our Indigenous, Latine, Chicanx, migrant and BIPOC community. Black Walnut Day was born out of the struggle against a multimillion dollar development that would have destroyed 110 Black Walnut trees and habitat, as well as threaten 900 nearby tenants with economic displacement. Reclaiming this Land has led to regenerating relationships with the land and Peoples across Northeast Los Angeles.

negro del sur de California como un miembro resiliente de nuestra comunidad Indígena, Latine, Chicanx, migrante y BIPOC. El Día del Nogal Negro nació de la lucha contra un desarrollo millonario que habría destruido 110 nogales negros y su hábitat, además de amenazar con el desplazamiento económico a 900 inquilinos cercanos. Recuperar esta tierra ha llevado a regenerar las relaciones con la tierra y con la gente en todo el noreste de Los Ángeles.
