Youth Fishing Day

In honor of Latino Conservation Week the Great Swamp National Wilkie Refuge and the Hispanic Access Foundation will be hosting a Youth Fishing Day Event! This is event was created having in mind that it is important to appreciate nature and the outdoors and understanding that it is also a place where we can have fun. There will be fishing for anyone who is 16 years or younger or anyone with a valid fishing license. In addition to fishing, there will also be watershed Jenga and hover ball archery but also prizes for a few lucky winners that come to support the event.

Latino Conservation Advocacy Day at Montezuma Castle National Monument

As part of Mi Familia Vota’s Environmental Justice program we will be celebrating Latino Conservation Week July 13-21! In order to honor our beautiful, precious lands, we will visit Montezuma Castle National Monument to witness the incredible legacy of the Verde Valley! Join us on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 to show your LOVE for National Parks and Public Lands! Bring volunteers, friends, partners, and so on. We will meet at Mi Familia Vota's office parking lot at 7:00AM and we plan to load our vehicles and head to Montezuma Castle National Monument at 7:15AM. We hope to be back at the office around 12:30PM.

Maritime Heritage Trail Survey Dive - ¡Bucear y Encuesta del Sendero Marítimo Historical!

National Parks Conservation Association expanded its audience to include young military veterans and their families. A new partnership with AQUANAUTS ADAPTIVE AQUATICS will focus on monitoring and raising awareness of Biscayne National Park 's Maritime Heritage Trail through engagement activities with disabled veterans and civilian divers who will work with the National Park Service on the only submerged archaeological trail in the National Park system.

Join Lincoln Home park rangers and volunteers from the University of Illinois Extension Master Gardeners for a bilingual program about how people in Abraham Lincoln’s neighborhood tended their gardens in the 1860s. Get your hands dirty as you pot your own seeds, learn about the various plants that were available when Abraham Lincoln lived in the neighborhood, and the benefits of growing your own food!

Latino Conservation Week at Lee Richardson Zoo

July 13th through the 21st marks Latino Conservation Week: Disfrutando y Conservando Nuestra Tierra is an initiative of Hispanic Access Foundation (HAF). Latino Conservation Week was created to support the Latino community getting into the outdoors and participating in activities to protect our natural resources. To help support this initiative we will be hosting a bilingual keeper chat held in both English and Spanish for community members to join us in learning about animal conservation Monday through Friday July 15th through the 19th at 2:30PM at the rhino habitat.

Latino Outdoors San Diego Group Restoration Project con Paletas

Latino Outdoors has partnered with San Diego Parks and Recreation for their monthly restoration project. Our group will assist cleaning and clearing out an area on Black Mountain just behind the Ranger Station. Participants will learn about some of the invasive plants challenging the natural habitat in and around San Diego as well as other restoration and trail maintenance opportunities they can volunteer for in the future.

Sea Turtle Hatchling Release at Padre Island National Seashore

Sea turtle biologists will provide bilingual programs (in English and Spanish) before public sea turtle hatchling releases. We invite Latino families and our spanish speaking community to join us at the releases. NOTE that exact dates of the release will depend on when the eggs hatch and the hatchlings are ready for release.
