Science at the Sea
Science at the Sea is a hands-on marine science program intended to provide accessible science experiences for kids from historically excluded groups in STEM: including gender minorities, racial/ethnic minorities, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and people from low income or underserved communities. This will be a program offered in English and Spanish. Participants will learn about their local watershed and the animals that call our coastlines home.

Maine Outdoor Film Festival - Havana Libre Screening
Our Surfrider Maine Chapter is teaming up with the filmmakers of Havana Libre and the Maine Outdoor Film Festival to host an in-person showing of Havana Libre, a powerful film documenting the struggle of surfing in Cuba, on July 27! This event will also include a Q&A with the film team after the screening. Drinks and food trucks will be on the seen as well.
Kayak Day at Kings Beach State Recreation Area / Día de kayak en Kings Beach State Recreation Area
Kayak day at Kings Beach State Recreation Area is dedicated as a day to provide access, practice stewardship, and to grow connection for the Latine community at Lake Tahoe. We will offer short, bilingual, guided interpretive tours throughout the day as well as opportunities for participants to paddle around on their own within a designated area. Kayaks, personal floatation devices (PFD), water and light snacks will be provided. This event is FREE and open to the public. There is a $10 a day parking fee at Kings Beach State Recreation Area. The parking lot fills up early so carpooling is highly recommended!

Day Hike in Treman State Park with Cornell Outdoor Education
Join Cornell Outdoor Education's celebration of the 2023 Latino Conservation Week on Sunday, July 16, 2023. We will be hiking the trails of Treman State Park in Ithaca, NY. Bilingual COE instructors will guide this hike. This event is limited to members of the Cornell University community and their families and friends. Transportation will be provided. Celebremos juntos “Latino Conservation Week 2023” Únete a Huellas Latinas & Wild Rivers Conservancy para disfrutar de una divertida tarde de navegación en kayak por el Río Saint Criox desde Taylors Falls a Osceola Landing. Esta actividad es perfecta para principiantes. Durante la actividad aprenderán las técnicas básicas de remar en kayak y en río, así como todos los aspectos de seguridad para que se sientan seguros, cómodos y confiandos al pasear en kayaks. Se proveerán todos los equipos necesarios para la actividad, kayaks, remos y chalecos salva vidas. Del mismo modo, el transporte para retornar al punto de partida.
