I Love A Clean San Diego has served as the official organizer of Coastal Cleanup Day in San Diego County since it was founded in 1985. The event is a major part of International Coastal Cleanup, which is facilitated by The Ocean Conservancy and includes many U.S. states and territories and over 70 countries. In California, data is reported to the California Coastal Commission to be funneled into the world’s largest marine database. You are joining hundreds of thousands of volunteers all over the world to remove pollution from our ecosystems!

In San Diego County, I Love a Clean San Diego organizes Coastal Cleanup Day with support from the California Coastal Commission, who organizes this effort statewide. This is all part of the greater International Coastal Cleanup that's led by the Ocean Conservancy. Volunteers are invited to grab buckets and work gloves and make a difference in our San Diego region!

WHAT TO EXPECT: A site captain will be ready to check you in on site. After a short orientation and safety talk you will be sent off to remove litter around the area! The site captain(s) will be in charge of sorting and disposing of the collected litter and after the cleanup you can request community service verification in your Community Hub dashboard.

SUPPLIES: Be sure to wear comfortable clothes, closed-toed shoes, some form of sun protection (sunscreen or a hat) and bring a water bottle or two! Help make this cleanup as Earth-friendly as possible by bringing sustainable supplies from home check out our Sustainable Cleanup Supply Guide in the attachments below. The site captain(s) will be providing trash bags and disposable gloves if you do not have your own supplies!

WAIVERS: This event requires a signed release-of-liability waiver for all volunteers, and anyone under 18 needs a waiver signed by a guardian. Please download and print the waiver below, sign, and bring with you to this cleanup. No printer? No problem! We will have waivers at check-in for volunteers. If you are under 18 please have your guardian check-in with us at the cleanup to sign-off on your participation.

LITTER DATA: Please download the Clean Swell App on your phone BEFORE arriving to the cleanup. As you collect litter, you will note how much of each type of litter you picked up. We encourage you all to pick up in teams, with one person as the citizen scientist recording the data! This is important for us to track trends over time, areas in need and create more targeted educational material.

WEATHER CANCELLATION POLICY: Our events are rain or shine! If it is raining on your cleanup day, we recommend rain boots, a raincoat and a towel to dry off afterwards.

Kick off Latino Conservation Week with us at our "Alebrije Painting Workshop!" Discover the rich history and artistry behind alebrijes, and then let your creativity shine as you paint and decorate your own. This workshop is recommended for ages 12 and up, but we'll have extra craft supplies available for younger children to join in the fun. We can't wait to see you there! Check in starts at 9:30 AM.

Creek Day is a community-wide, volunteer-based watershed restoration event that Alpine Watershed Group has been coordinating since 2001. This important event helps us tackle environmental health projects such as installing willow stakes, removing trash, pulling invasive weeds, addressing erosion issues, wrapping aspens, and other eco-friendly projects.

Creek Day involves dozens of volunteers dividing and conquering on a handful of projects, each with a skilled site leader with appropriate tools and supplies.

El Día del Arroyo es un evento comunitario de restauración de cuencas hidrográficas basado en el voluntariado que el Alpine Watershed Group ha estado coordinando desde 2001. Join us for a conversation with two Colorado-based groups working on the problem of plastics. Take an hour to hear from Inland Ocean Coalition and FoCo Trash Mob on how to find success against big plastic producers through collective action.

Come ready to join in on one of FoCo Trash Mob's current campaigns! We will take some time on the call to do direct action, pushing corporations and businesses in our neighborhoods to meet our demands for less plastic waste. Spanish translation will be available on the call.

Each fall, something extraordinary happens along the banks of the Yuba River and its tributaries. Hundreds of volunteers — from toddlers to retirees, families to fishing clubs — unite for one purpose: to care for the river that runs through the heart of our community. Since 1997, the Yuba River Cleanup has brought people together not just to remove trash, but to build a healthier watershed and a stronger community.

It’s a chance to relax, connect with fellow river stewards, and celebrate the collective impact made across the watershed. Lunch is free for all Cleanup participants. Volunteers of all ages are encouraged to join the fun because giving back to the river deserves a celebration!

Global biodiversity hotspots contain exceptional concentrations of plant and animal species found nowhere else on the planet, but they also experience high rates of biodiversity loss. Unfortunately, California is no exception – approximately 30% of our species are at risk of extinction.

Each year, throughout the week of September 7th, we celebrate and steward our state’s unique biodiversity. California Biodiversity Day is a time to celebrate the incredible biodiversity that exists throughout our state while also learning about ways to be involved and actions we can take to conserve and steward the nature that sustains us.

Join National Park Service rangers and park partner staff for a day out in your National Park to celebrate California Biodiversity Week! We will be hosting a free beginner's Nature Journaling workshop within the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area.

Meet in the dirt parking lot/main trailhead of Rocky Oaks Park. Staff will guide participants to an outdoor seating area where you'll have the option to begin guided journaling with a naturalist journaler or go on a short walk to gain inspiration for your journal entry. We will provide materials to hand out, but you're more than welcome to bring your own art supplies. All ages welcome, no experience required!

Join us for a family-friendly, all-ages bird banding event led by bilingual scientists at Intermountain Bird Observatory. Visitors will have the opportunity to observe bird banding up close, learn about bird biology, behavior, and migration, and even help release birds back into the wild. Banding begins at sunrise and runs for 5 hours; guests are typically invited to arrive around 7–8 AM depending on sunrise time and can stay until closing at 12 PM. This is an educational and immersive experience in nature—ideal for families, bird enthusiasts, and curious minds of all ages!

For nearly 50 years, Sonoma Land Trust has been committed to protecting and preserving land in Sonoma County. Latino Service Providers, through its youth internship program, works to actively engage the Latinx community on health-related issues impacting Sonoma County and to inspire the next generation of community health professionals. This collaboration aims to bridge our efforts, creating experiences that connect young people with the environment and empower them to make a positive impact on their communities.

Super Nutrition, in collaboration with two partner organizations (to be announced), invites the community to join us for an invigorating hike at the beautiful Jump Creek. This outdoor experience will not only encourage physical wellness, but also support environmental stewardship as we work together to keep the area clean by collecting trash along the way.

Before the hike, Super Nutrition coaches will guide participants through a series of stretches and moderate movements to ensure everyone is properly prepared for the climb.

We are excited to participate once again in this yearly week of activities and hope our community will join us in making this tradition both fun and impactful.

Celebrate Latino Conservation Week 2025: Floreciendo Juntos with us on Wednesday, Sept 17, 8:30–11:00 AM at the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve (BCP)! We’ll meet at the Snowden House (https://maps.app.goo.gl/4VxzmQ7akbz4cAFN9) and head out to the Collins Loop Trail for a fun morning of trail maintenance.

The BCP is one of the nation’s largest urban preserves, protecting more than 33,000 acres in Central Texas. It provides critical habitat for endangered species and other wildlife that call this unique landscape home. Learn more about the BCP here: https://www.traviscountytx.gov/tnr/nr/bcp.

During this event, we’ll focus on removing overhanging limbs and clearing low vegetation that has encroached on the trail. No experience? No problem! We’ll provide all the tools and teach you everything you need to know. We are thrilled to present Danza Azteca Citlaltonac, a Mexican Indigenous ceremonial group and non-profit organization based in the eastern Coachella Valley. Their work focuses on Preservation, Education, Advocacy, and Mental Health through workshops, including Ceremonial Dancing, Drumming, Traditional Medicine, Storytelling, Music, Poetry, Arts and Crafts, and Talking Indigenous Circles. Join us for a danza presentation by Danza Azteca CItlaltonac, where you'll explore the Indigenous ceremonial traditions of Mexico through movement and storytelling. Time: 1:00PM - 2:00PM. Discover life in the canyon with our nature exploration activity! This self guided scavenger hunt will help you learn about some plants and animals that live on the preserve, alongside some fun facts in English and Spanish. Pick up an I.D sheet from the naturalist education table to start exploring. Time: 11:00AM - 3:00PM

Día de los Muertos is a Central American tradition honoring ancestors. It occurs very close to Halloween but holds very different meanings and traditions. Come learn how to decorate calaveras (skulls), create offrendas (alters), and learn more about this tradition that is important to many indigenous American cultures.

This event is free and open to all ages.

20 pastors and congregation members from 4 different churches in the Boston area will come together to celebrate Latino Conservation Week by enjoying a fishing outing with Captain’s Fishing Parties. Join us for a free, family-friendly bilingual bird program to celebrate World Migratory Bird Day and Latino Conservation Week. Every fall, millions of birds move through Cuyahoga Valley National Park as they journey down to Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, and South America to spend the winter. Watch as park biologists band and collect important scientific data on live, migratory birds. You will have a close and personal experience with birds. We will also have cafecito, migration games, and conversations about conservation. The second session may see less birds than the first because birds are more active in the morning. 

*All birds are handled and banded by professionals under a federally authorized Bird Banding Permit issued by the U.S. Geological Survey Bird Banding Laboratory. Birds are released unharmed after data is collected.

Mountain Mamas is a dynamic network of mothers committed to protecting our air, water, climate, and public lands for future generations. Guided by a deep commitment to organizing, inspiring, and activating moms across the Rocky Mountains and beyond, Mountain Mamas champions environmental advocacy through storytelling, policy engagement, and community connection. Together, we work to ensure that families, especially those most impacted have a seat at the table in environmental decision-making.

On Thursday, September 18, join Arizona Program Manager, Selina Barajas, as a guest speaker for Green Drinks Tucson, a monthly happy hour for conservationists and community members to hang out, network, and exchange ideas. These gatherings are open to anyone who shares an interest in conservation and the environment, so bring a friend or two! This event is free and open to all.

Coastal Cleanup Day is an international day of action to protect our oceans, watersheds, and wildlife from debris and plastic pollution. In collaboration with the California Coastal Commission and the Ocean Conservancy, Heal the Bay has proudly been the Los Angeles County Coordinator of this event for the past 36 years. This year, there are more than 70 cleanup sites throughout the county for you to choose from. Whether you want to tidy up the mountains, better your neighborhood, or spruce up the beach, we’ve got you covered!

On Saturday, September 20th, 2025, from 9 a.m. to noon, thousands of volunteers will help tackle Los Angeles’s marine debris crisis! Please contact ccd@healthebay.org with any questions.
