Latino Conservation Week: A Dialogue on Intersectional Environmentalism
What does systemic oppression have to do with climate issues?
Tune in as five leaders weigh in on intersectional environmentalism.This virtual panel conversation on intersectional environmentalism is in celebration of Latino Conservation Week. The panelists will be joined by moderator, and LO Founder, José González to discuss the intersection of social and environmental justice.

The conversation will take place via Zoom and broadcasted on Facebook, Youtube, and Twitter on July 24th from 5-6:20PM ET (2-3:20PM PT).
The hour long discussion will be followed by 20 minutes for questions from the audience.
Doors will open 15 minutes before the start time to provide participants time to settle in.

HLN Double Film Screening
To kick off LCW 2020, Hispanic Access Foundation's Hispanic Leadership Network will attend a film screening of Leche y Miel and Land, Water y Comunidad. The event will also include a group discussion, short sermon on conservation & stewardship, and some resource sharing from our HAF team.

Virtual Bike Tour of the Tijuana Slough National Wildlife Refuge
For those looking to get out and explore on your own, but don’t know where to start?
Rangers from San Diego National Wildlife Refuge Complex have put together a short virtual bike tour of the Tijuana Slough National Wildlife Refuge located in Imperial Beach, California. Acompaña our rangers as they take a bike ride through the refuge. They’ll share information about things they encounter and provide helpful tips so that you can explore on your own! They will also provide a short guide with information on how to get to the refuge, what you might see, and family friendly activities you can do while exploring the refuge on your own. The guide will be available both in English and Spanish.

Latinas in Conservation: Ask us Anything
Are you looking for a job in conservation or with federal government land management agencies like the Fish and Wildlife Service or the National Park Service? Do you have questions about what the jobs are like? Or how to get started?
Meet park rangers Nancy and Julie, two Latinas who work for the San Diego National Wildlife Refuge Complex in California. During this Facebook Live event you’ll have the opportunity to ask them questions about their jobs, working in the conservation field, and the San Diego NWRC. They’ll share their personal experiences navigating the field as Latinas. They’ll also include information on internships, applying for federal jobs, and other helpful tips.

LCW 2020 Virtual 5k Fun Run/Walk
The coronavirus pandemic has derailed many planned athletic events worldwide. Those who have trained for their 5K race will have the option and opportunity to put their disciplined training to use, with the added convenience of completing their race mileage right where they are!
Join Brookside Gardens, Latino Outdoors, and Latino Health Initiative in celebrating Latino Conservation Week (LCW) for our first VIRTUAL Healthy Parks Healthy People 5k Fun Run/Walk!
Virtual running works exactly the same as any other type of running but the difference is that the entered race can be run at any location, at any pace, inside on a treadmill or at Brookside Gardens! You'll have the opportunity to register for a date during the Latino Conservation Week which runs from July 18-26 and run at any time during that date.
When choosing a venue to run at try to protect against exposure to COVID-19, by practicing social distancing and everyday steps such as washing hands often, covering coughs and sneezes, and using a PPE. Lastly, we would love to hear about your race so share your photos with us to be entered into our LCW raffle giveaway!

Latino Outdoors and Hispanic Access Foundation are teaming up to announce a #LCW2020 Photo Contest beginning July 18, 2020, & ending July 26, 2020 at 11:59 PM PT. Submissions will be accepted starting July 18th.
Photos may be submitted under each of the following categories, which are drawn from subjects of special interest to Latino Outdoors’ participation in Latino Conservation Week 2020: RETHINK OUTSIDE, CONSERVATION CULTURA and LATINX EXPERIENCE.

Climate Change Talk
As part of Latino Conservation Week 2020 — Fabiola Torres, a fellow HAF intern currently pursuing her Master of Science degree in Biology, will be talking about climate change and its effects on wildlife and humans. Dive into our planet and its resources with us in this inspiring talk that will also point out ways to look at the fight against this issue as a collective and individual effort.

Adopt the block is all about cleaning up our streets and neighborhoods. It's about becoming good stewards of God's creation on earth. We will be going out this day just right around our streets with trash pickers sticks trash bags and our personal protective gear. And picking up and disposing properly of our garbage on the streets. This promotes good stewardship as well as exercising for all our young people and their parents. The task is to go and show love to their cities to their neighbors and doing what the bible talks about being the golden rule to do to others what you would have then done unto you.

We will be showing the movie the Lorax to our Young people and adults that talk about the environmental importance of seeds, followed by a discussion with young people and their parents.We will be giving each guest assorted packets of seeds that will be for their gardens as well as seeds that will grow to become herbs and vegetables that they can eat as well. By these actions, we hope to teach our people the importance of our lands that not only do they provide oxygen for our as well as purify earth but that we too live off the land that we eat off the land.
