LO Central Coast | SLO County Creeks to Coast Cleanup

Latino Outdoors Central Coast will participate in the annual California Coastal Cleanup Day coordinated by the California Coastal Commission. In San Luis Obispo County, ECOSLO coordinates Creeks to Coast Cleanup. This year, Latino Outdoors will help cleanup at Oso Flaco Lake.

Participating in Coastal Cleanup Day fits right in with Latino Conservation Week which is September 12-20, 2026. Latino Conservation Week was created to support the Latino community getting into the outdoors and participating in activities to protect our natural resources.

Water Conservation Walk

Join us for a fun afternoon! Our youth and family-friendly event seeks out Coachella Valley youth of all ages to register to visit the Whitewater Preserve accompanied by our COFEM Conservation Program Lead to learn more about water conservation, habitat and aquifer restoration in the Coachella Valley. Walk along the river, discover a new habitat and engage with other likeminded folks.

Transportation, food and drinks will be provided. 

Dress in closed toe shoes and bring your own water bottle. We will have some cold water onsite.

Our Water Conservation Walk is supported by a Latino Conservation Week grant from Hispanic Access Foundation.

Nuestra Bahía, Nuestro Futuro: Empowering Local Conservation at MSI

 ¡Ven a explorar la bahía de San Francisco con tu familia! 

 

¡Acompáñanos en MSI para un evento presencial donde celebraremos y fortaleceremos el conocimiento sobre nuestra bahía local! Este encuentro es la oportunidad perfecta para conectar con la comunidad, compartir ideas y aprender cómo podemos proteger nuestra bahía juntos. Ven a interactuar directamente con la Bahía de San Francisco, descubre animales increíbles y aprende sobre las conexiones que nos unen a todos. ¡No te lo pierdas: la bahía depende de nosotros!

Todos los participantes necesitan una entrada. Todos deben tener un mínimo de 5 años.

Actividades:

  • Interacción con tiburones y peces
  • Exploración de artefactos
  • Interacción con invertebrados
  • Equipo real de investigación marina
  • Traducción de inglés a español disponible.

Join us at MSI for an in-person event where we will celebrate and strengthen local Bay understanding! This gathering is the perfect opportunity to connect with the community, share ideas, and learn how we can protect our bay together. Come get hands-on with the San Francisco Bay, explore incredible animals, and learn how we are all connected. Don't miss out—the bay depends on us!

All participants need a ticket. Everyone must be at least 5 years old.

Activities:

  • Interact with shark and fish!
  • Explore marine artifacts
  • Live invertebrate touching
  • Operate real scientific equipment
  • Large group fishing net for bay exploration

A Night at the Refuge: Movie, Tacos, & Birding Under The Stars

Join the Sierra Club and Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge for an evening of learning and nighttime adventure! We'll start by sharing a taco dinner together and watching the short film Bluebird Man. Then, we'll head outside once it gets dark to look for any owls around the refuge and gaze at the constellations in the starry sky.

Cyanotype Photography Workshop at Peaceful Belly Farm

Create some art during this family-friendly workshop! You’ll have a chance to learn about growing an organic garden in the Treasure Valley, about a CSA, identify some plants & flowers, and pick some flowers to make a cyanotype with. We will be outdoors in the shaded orchard area with tables.

This special Walk With a Doc Boise session highlights the connection between health, nature, and Latino community leadership in conservation. We’ll begin with a brief health topic, warmup stretches, and then enjoy a relaxed, family‑friendly walk focused on movement, connection, and appreciation of our local outdoor spaces. All ages and fitness levels are welcome.

Bilingual Bird Banding with Intermountain Bird Observatory

Join us for a family-friendly, all-ages bird banding event led by bilingual scientists at Intermountain Bird Observatory. Visitors will have the opportunity to observe bird banding up close, learn about bird biology, behavior, and migration, and even help release birds back into the wild.

Feathers and Farm Tour

Take a tour of a local small farm—The Boise Farm House! We are a little farm that has chickens and two white geese. Come spend some time at our little farmhouse with a tour of our cottage garden, hear about  our seed saving and check out how you can also garden.
