River Restoration Days are a volunteer stewardship event jointly organized by the San Joaquin River Conservancy and the Sierra Resource Conservation District, held at the Conservancy's Headquarters, to support ongoing river‑corridor restoration. Volunteers typically help with activities such as invasive vegetation removal, trail and access maintenance, habitat restoration, fuel‑load reduction, and general site cleanup—work that aligns with SRCD’s larger restoration and land‑management services on Conservancy properties.

The event is part of the Conservancy’s broader nature‑based solutions and community‑engagement efforts and is listed on the Conservancy’s upcoming events calendar as “River Restoration Volunteer Day”.

This month's river restoration day will also include a free native plant giveaway.

Participants will also have to opportunity to canoe with RiverTree Volunteers on a guided paddle that connects people to the river. For a lot of our paddlers it is the first time they have been on the San Joaquin at all — and it is hard to stay indifferent to a river once you have been out on it.

Pease wear appropriate clothing and shoes for outdoor activities. 

At our Compost Hubs, food scraps collected from the community are transformed into nutrient-rich compost, and we need your help to make it happen! As a Compost Hub Support Volunteer, you’ll gain hands-on experience working alongside our knowledgeable Compost Managers. Get ready to leave feeling accomplished, a little sweaty, and brimming with new compost knowledge.

Take a closer look at what owls eat during this hands-on bilingual Discovery Table at the Mission Trails Visitor Center. Presented in English and Spanish as part of Latino Conservation Week, the activity invites visitors to examine owl pellets and discover the tiny bones and other clues hidden inside. MTRP volunteer Trail Guides will help participants identify what they find and learn more about owls, their prey and the role these nocturnal predators play in the park’s ecosystem.

Explore Mission Trails Regional Park en español during a special Spanish-language Guided Nature Walk offered as part of Latino Conservation Week. Spanish-speaking MTRP volunteer Trail Guides will lead this walk from the Visitor Center, sharing their knowledge of the park’s plants, wildlife, geology, history and culture along the way. The walk will take place at the same time as the regular Saturday Guided Nature Walk but will be a separate experience for visitors who prefer narration in Spanish.

Celebrate Latino Conservation Week with a special bilingual edition of Reading with a Ranger at Mission Trails Regional Park. City of San Diego Park Ranger Elizabeth Delgado will lead a family-friendly storytime presented in both English and Spanish, giving young visitors a fun way to connect with nature, wildlife and the park. Families are invited to settle in, listen together and learn more about the natural world through stories and conversation.

Do you remember a tree, a courtyard, a river, or a patch of earth that held your childhood long before you learned the names of new landscapes?

The Nature We Remember is an intimate, bilingual storytelling and poetry walk created for Latino Conservation Week 2026, in collaboration with the Hispanic Access Foundation and Hosted by Lorena Saavedra Smith, Ecopsychologist and Author of Awaken Your Roots

We will move slowly through the green of Fairfax County, tuning our senses to the quiet cues of memory, migration, family, and home. This is not about conquering a trail or performing for the outdoors. It is a shared return to the places that shaped us, holding space for our stories in both English and Spanish.

You do not need to be a writer, a poet, or an experienced hiker to walk with us. Bring comfortable shoes, something to capture your thoughts, and your whole self.

We will close in reciprocity, talking about how we tend to the local lands that hold us now.

Come walk, remember, write, and listen.

The Nature We Remember (La Naturaleza que Recordamos) es una caminata bilingüe de poesía y narración creada para la Semana de Conservación Latina 2026, en colaboración con Hispanic Access Foundation.

Juntos caminaremos despacio por un espacio natural local, prestando atención a lo que vemos, oímos, olemos y sentimos. A través de la reflexión guiada, la conversación, la narración y la poesía, revisitaremos memorias de la naturaleza conectadas con la familia, la cultura, la migración, la infancia y los lugares que nos han moldeado.

Esta experiencia está especialmente creada para fomentar una mayor participación latina en los espacios al aire libre, dando una cálida bienvenida a la comunidad en general.

No necesitas ser poeta, escritor ni un caminante experimentado. Ven tal como eres. Trae zapatos cómodos para caminar, algo para escribir y tu curiosidad.

Terminaremos reflexionando sobre la reciprocidad y sobre una manera significativa en la que podemos continuar cuidando y profundizando nuestra relación con los espacios naturales que nos rodean.

Ven a caminar, recordar, escribir, escuchar y conectar.

Let's take a walk and practice birding in English and Spanish! Binoculars are available to borrow. Walk is approximately 1.5 miles on flat, rocky trails. For adults and children ages 7 and up. Free.

Latino Outdoors Central Coast will participate in the annual California Coastal Cleanup Day coordinated by the California Coastal Commission. In San Luis Obispo County, ECOSLO coordinates Creeks to Coast Cleanup. This year, Latino Outdoors will help cleanup at Oso Flaco Lake.

Participating in Coastal Cleanup Day fits right in with Latino Conservation Week which is September 12-20, 2026. Latino Conservation Week was created to support the Latino community getting into the outdoors and participating in activities to protect our natural resources.
