Heal the Bay Presents Coastal Cleanup Day: Rebuilding with Resilience

Event Description:

"The coast is never saved, it is always in the process of being saved." - Peter Douglas

?️About Coastal Cleanup Day - L.A. County?️

Coastal Cleanup Day is an international day of action to protect our oceans, watersheds, and wildlife from debris and plastic pollution. In collaboration with the California Coastal Commission and the Ocean Conservancy, Heal the Bay has proudly been the Los Angeles County Coordinator of this event for the past 36 years. This year, there are more than 70 cleanup sites throughout the county for you to choose from. Whether you want to tidy up the mountains, better your neighborhood, or spruce up the beach, we've got you covered!

??️?️⛰️?️

Last year, around 7,000 volunteers removed 18,000 pounds of pollutants and recyclables from neighborhoods, parks, trails, and beaches throughout L.A. County. Cigarette butts were the most commonly found item, but now small plastic pieces and polystyrene, commonly known as Styrofoam, have made their way into the top debris items volunteers are finding in L.A.’s favorite outdoor areas. The data collected from volunteers during Coastal Cleanup Day helps inform the science, outreach, and policy work we do here at Heal the Bay, and we share our data with organizations around the world to advance environmental science innovation.
