
Latino Conservation Week kick-off at Humboldt Redwoods State park
California State Park’s would like to formally invite you to join us at Humboldt Redwoods State Park in Celebration Latino Conservation Week (LCW)
What is LCW? Latino Conservation Week: Disfrutando y Conservando Nuestra Tierra is an initiative of the Hispanic Access Foundation. This week is about providing an opportunity for Latinos to come together and to demonstrate their passion for the outdoors -- both its enjoyment and preservation.
And we are kicking things off on Sunday July 16th from 12-2pm. Join bilingual Spanish speaking interpreters on a FREE Nature Walk from 12-1pm at Gould Loop Trail (.6 miles) and a fun game of Loteria at the Burlington Campfire Center to follow! Fun for all ages.
You won't want to miss out on this rare opportunity to bring your familia to the park and learn about these amazing ancient trees and forests en Español!

Directions- The Visitor Center is on the Avenue of the Giants, about 2 miles South of Weott, US 101 Exit 661.
Other Reminders
Weather- The weather is predicted to be warm (~75-80 F) around this time of year, so we recommend you pack and dress accordingly : bring a water bottle, hat/ sunscreen, comfortable shoes and clothes.
Eel River- This is a great opportunity to take your family to the river, before or after the event. Plan and pack accordingly. You can ask for more information on how to access the river at the event and/ or at the visitor center.
Food - this event will NOT include any food, consider this when preparing for your trip. There are a few restaurants/ markets along the avenue that you can go to before or after the event.

A Pleno Aire Crandon Park
Join Latino Conservation Week Lead Ambassadors, Shley Suarez-Burgos & Virginia Ansaldi alongside local artist, Angela Portillo, for a plein air event at Crandon Park. Learn about the history and coastal environment of Crandon Park while local artist, Angela Portillo, guides participants in landscape painting. All art materials will be provided. Bug spray, water bottles, and chairs are recommended to bring. Registration is required for this free event. Please register each adult interested. Angela Portillo is a contemporary artist who works with mixed media. Through her assimilation of different textures, colors, even line objects, she captures a scenery through each of her artworks that redirects her to a specific moment in time.
Latino Conservation Week was created to support the Latino community getting into the outdoors and participating in activities to protect our natural resources. Crandon Park is one of seven heritage parks acquired by Miami-Dade County. With amenities such as Crandon Gardens, Biscayne Nature Center, a marina, golf course and tennis center, Crandon Park is visited by locals and tourists who enjoy the many recreational opportunities afforded.

Participants of all ages are invited to enjoy fishing, learn about environmental conservation, and connect with likeminded individuals. The event aims to inspire a love for nature and raise awareness about responsible fishing practices while celebrating Latino Conservation week.
Forest Clean-Up in Pinecrest
In an effort to help conserve our beautiful outdoor environments, SJA will be contributing their efforts to provide clean-up and waste removal at their annually attended youth camp in Pinecrest. Youth camp is a very exciting experience for all who attend and also a very influential one for many who ultimately make steps towards living their lives for Jesus Christ! This experience very valuable to our youth, and in order to keep this event a pleasant experience, it’s important that we take measures to conserve and care for the earth (In this case the Pinecrest forest area in particular).
Bilingual Nature Walk
Led by an APEC educator, join us to enjoy conversation in English and Spanish as you explore the trails of Alley Pond Park. Meet your walk leader in front of the main entrance. Registration required as spots are limited. This walk is open for families and adults. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Spanish Led Group Hike with Friends of Nevada Wilderness
Friends of Nevada Wilderness will be hosting a Spanish Led Group Hike starting at the Jones-Whites Creek Trailhead near the Galena Visitors Center. We will be talking about Leave No Trace, Wilderness, and Stewardship Opportunities in Nevada throughout the hike! This beautiful area just outside of Reno is lush with blooming wildflowers, has plenty of shade from the pines, and the creek is rushing with crystal clear water. Let your child's creativity flourish in the beauty of nature!
This hands-on program will encourage young artists to explore their creativity in an outdoor setting. Skilled instructors from Abrakadoodle will lead this fun class. Children will have the opportunity to try various media and learn about color, composition, and texture while gaining confidence in their artistic abilities. Each student will create their own unique artwork, drawing inspiration from the beauty of the Arboretum.
Registration is limited. Children must be accompanied by an adult. In case of inclement weather class will be held at an indoor location. Check in first at the visitor center where you will meet your guide, followed by a short walk to our outdoor class.

For more than fifty years, volunteers at Tyler Arboretum have been monitoring the nesting activities of the Eastern Bluebird. Please join us on this family-friendly tour to share this tradition. We will walk the succession field and check on quite a few bluebird boxes. We expect to see bluebirds, active nests of bluebirds and other cavity-nesting birds, eggs, and young nestlings!
Registration is limited. Please check-in with your tour guide on the Visitor Center patio by 1 pm.
We will be walking on grassy fields for this tour. Bug spray is recommended.
