Join Mason Conservation District for Latino Conservation Week! We are hosting a Guided Kayak Tour to Hope Island State Park, Saturday, July 23rd! The event is open to all Latino teens and their families in Mason County, however SPACE IS LIMITED! It will be from 11am - 2pm and is FREE! Latino Conservation Week was created with the goal of supporting and getting our community into the outdoors and participating in activities to protect our natural resources. People of color are greatly unrepresented and excluded in the outdoors due to the lack of accessibility. Environmental conservation comes in so many forms. Help us promote this and other conservation efforts to show our support for permanently protecting our land, air and water.

Join us on Thursday, July 21 at 5:00pm at the East Las Vegas Library for a conversation about our public lands and the Avi Kwa Ame National Monument proposal. We will be meeting at the East Las Vegas Library at 2851 E. Bonanza Road and we will provide light snacks and beverages.

Avi Kwa Ame is home to some of the most stunning and biologically diverse lands in the Mojave Desert. We’ll talk about its cultural, ecological, and historical significance and ways you can get involved to help establish Nevada’s next national monument. 

Join us on this guided exploration of over 100 species

through a 5-acre sanctuary. We will be engaging with

sanctuary caretakers as they do a little ‘show and tell’

Of animals that are native and some not so native to Florida.

Join us at 5pm on Thursday July 21^st  as Consejo de Federaciones Mexicanas (COFEM) and MDLT celebrate #LatinoConservationWeek and the Latinx connection with the outdoors by enjoying poetry art from Latinx artists with ties to the California desert. Featuring poet Juan Delgado, Professor Emeritus of CSUSB; Stephanie Godoy, Teaching Artist at the Getty Museum for Summer 2022; Cecelia “Cece” Cruz, Chicana artist, muralist, and illustrator from Coachella Valley: and 19-year old artist Laia Torres.
