Planting at the Municipal Center in West St. Paul

  • ¡Buena actitud!

☕ Snacks y refrigerios
Habrá snacks, café y agua disponibles.

Thank you for joining us at the West Saint Paul Municipal Bee Lawn Plug Planting, in partnership with Xcel Energy’s Day of Service and as part of Latino Conservation Week!

We’re so glad you’re joining Great River Greening in transforming turf into thriving habitat at this highly visible site surrounding the West St. Paul Municipal Center.

Since 2023, we’ve been working to replace traditional turf with a vibrant native bee lawn and tallgrass prairie. This year, we’re continuing the transformation with plug planting and native seed broadcasting—and we’re thrilled to have your help!

Why It Matters
Turf lawns don’t provide the food or shelter pollinators need. By planting native species, we’re creating a healthy, connected habitat that supports bees, butterflies, and other vital pollinators.

?‍?‍?‍? Family-Friendly & Welcoming
This is a family-friendly event, and volunteers of all ages and backgrounds are encouraged to attend. No experience is necessary—we’ll provide all the training you need!

Location & Terrain
The planting area is located on a hillside, about 100 feet from the parking lot. Please wear close-toed shoes and long sleeves to protect against ticks and brush. Dress for the weather—layers are key! The event will be held rain or shine.

What to Bring

  • Reusable water bottle
  • Work/gardening gloves (if you have them—otherwise, we’ll provide them)
  • A positive attitude!

☕ Snacks & Refreshments
Hearty snacks, coffee, and water will be provided.

Arrival Time
Please arrive 10–15 minutes early to allow time for parking and check-in.

Registration & Waivers
Once registered through GivePulse, you’ll receive event details and reminders.

  • Minors registering themselves: Provide a parent/guardian email in the “Linked Survey” box to receive a Youth Liability Waiver.
  • Adults bringing minors: Add them as attendees and check the “Youth Waiver” box.
  • Adults registering other adults: Enter each person’s unique email so they can confirm and sign their own waivers.

⚠️ Safety First
Your safety is our top priority. Please follow all safety guidelines and come prepared for outdoor conditions.

Cuentos y Cantos al Monte

Cuentos y Cantos al Monte, a three-day backpacking field seminar in the Pecos Wilderness of New Mexico.
September 19-21, 2025

it is a poetry of remembrance
and of an honoring of land and people

earth songs
love poems
born of celebration and mourning

Over the course of a three-day backpacking field seminar, a cohort of nine participants will join Song Dog Relations in the Pecos Wilderness where they will explore diverse ecosystems and cultural histories. This outing will be an opportunity to strengthen one's relationship to place and foster a sense of belonging through traditional cultural practices. Storytelling, poetry, movement and song will be offered to one another and the land as an act of reciprocity. Cuentos y Cantos al Monte will look towards the work of Levi Romero as a compass, orienting participants towards ways in which our mountains may ground, nourish and inspire us towards a life of remembrance and connection.

Song Dog will facilitate creative exercises for meaningful engagement in an ecological area within the Santa Fe region just days before the fall equinox. Whether born and raised in New Mexico or not, Cuentos y Cantos al Monte welcomes those that are committed to deeply listening to the stories of the land in an effort to understand their role and responsibility of care within the greater ecosystem.

Participants should expect to hike 8 miles total on a trail system that is described as ‘moderate to hard’ with an elevation gain of 1,050 feet. There will be breaks throughout each day, with no one left behind. Activities will be explored through a combination of group and solo exercises. For those that live in or near Albuquerque, there will be opportunities to hike with us in the Sandia Foothills in August in an effort to familiarize your body with elevation gain and a full pack on your back. Daily movement is a huge part of building endurance and stamina over time.

Some activities may include, but are not limited to: birdwatching, botany, meditation, journaling, storytelling, singing, and embodied voice practices. If you have a voice, you can sing!

Itinerary

Friday, September 19 - Meet at the Winsor Trailhead near the Santa Fe Ski Basin at 9am. Backpack 2.5 miles and setup basecamp in the afternoon. Review kitchen supplies, cooking & hygiene protocols prior to dinner. Close with an early evening dream circle.

Saturday, September 20 - Hike 1.5 miles to Nambe Lake with space for botany, free time and lunch. Sound healing & writing workshops will be facilitated throughout the afternoon. Return to basecamp for dinner.

Pilgrimage to the Cross in the Woods 2025

Peace and blessings to you.

On behalf of the Hispanic community in the Grand Rapids area, I am writing to respectfully request a grant of $1,500 to support an upcoming initiative of the Theatine Father: the Family Pilgrimage to the Cross in the Woods, a day-long spiritual experience for Latino families and youth from the greater Grand Rapids area on September 15, 2025, 7am-7pm.

Rooted in the rich tradition of Hispanic popular religiosity and devotion, this pilgrimage is designed to foster faith formation, cultural identity, and family unity in a deeply spiritual and natural setting. Taking place in northern Michigan, the experience will include guided hikes, communal prayer, celebration of the Eucharist, and reflection at the sacred grounds of the Shrine of the Cross in the Woods.

This event will provide families with the opportunity to:

  • Join other Spanish-speaking in a joyful celebration of faith
  • Build friendships across parishes
  • Deepen their relationship with Christ through liturgy and nature
  • Live a shared experience of culture, discipleship, and encounter
  • Return spiritually renewed and empowered for daily life in the Church

The grant would help cover transportation assistance, stipends for volunteers, meals for all participants and essential materials to make this pilgrimage accessible for families who might otherwise be unable to participate due to financial constraints. We are organizing carpools and keeping costs minimal, but external support is vital to make this event possible for all.

We believe this pilgrimage will bear much fruit in the lives of our families and our local Church. Your generosity would help strengthen faith, build community, and accompany our Spanish speaking families on their journey of discipleship.

Thank you for your time, your prayerful consideration, and for all the ways you support the mission of the Church. I would be happy to provide additional information or speak with you further at your convenience.
