Cuidando el Camino (Caring for the Path)

Celebrate Latino Conservation Week 2025: Floreciendo Juntos with us on Wednesday, Sept 17, 8:30–11:00 AM at the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve (BCP)! We’ll meet at the Snowden House (https://maps.app.goo.gl/4VxzmQ7akbz4cAFN9) and head out to the Collins Loop Trail for a fun morning of trail maintenance.

The BCP is one of the nation’s largest urban preserves, protecting more than 33,000 acres in Central Texas. It provides critical habitat for endangered species and other wildlife that call this unique landscape home. Learn more about the BCP here: https://www.traviscountytx.gov/tnr/nr/bcp.

During this event, we’ll focus on removing overhanging limbs and clearing low vegetation that has encroached on the trail. No experience? No problem! We’ll provide all the tools and teach you everything you need to know. This is a great way to get outside, give back to the land, and join a nationwide movement uplifting Latino voices in conservation.

What to bring/wear:

  • Long pants and closed-toed shoes

  • Sun protection (hat, sunscreen, sunglasses)

  • Plenty of water

  • Allergy medications (if needed)

Let’s come together to protect wildlife habitat, build community, and enjoy the beauty of the BCP. We can’t wait to see you out on the trails!

The Great Sierra River Cleanup Day is back! It’s part of the largest volunteer event in California! GSRC is a Sierra-wide watershed cleanup event coordinated by Sierra Nevada Alliance in collaboration with California’s Coastal Cleanup Day. If you would like to learn more about the impact and history of the event, visit the Sierra Nevada Alliance site here. We are hosting our annual Cleanup Day to support the efforts!

We will spend the morning picking up litter at our Clementine Beach Preserve and at the connected Upper Lake Clementine Beach area. Lunch will be provided at the end of the day! You are welcome to spend time at the public beach along the river after the cleanup, but please note that the river is very fast and cold.

The activities are best suited for adults and youth ages 10 and up. Any minor must be accompanied by a supervising adult. There are limited spaces available, so if you’re interested, please sign up!
