Continental Divide Trail Coalition Hike From Grants, NM

Come join us for a group hike on the CDT!
This hike is open to all and will last for an hour to an hour and a half.
We will Meet at the Rock Tank Canopy Shelter at 6pm. The CDT can head North or South from this location and we can loop back on local trails if need be instead of an out and back. We can tailor the hike to any level of skill. Please wear comfortable walking shoes and clothes and bring plenty of water.

The Direction from Grants- Take NM 547 North out of Grants for 13 mi and 13.2 mi the paved road ends and you will continue straight on the gravel road for approximately 3.4 mi to Forest RD 453 to La Mosca Peak. Go approximately 2 miles and you will arrive at your destination. Suggested time of travel is 30-40 minutes from Grants.

Community Trail Walk

Come celebrate the contributions of the cultures of New Mexico to conservation. Join the CDTC and Step Into Cuba for a beginner community trail walk in Cuba, NM. Families and adventurers of all experience levels are welcome! We will meet at 6pm at Asisi park and go from there. Please wear comfortable walking shoes and clothing and bring water. Thunderstorms are common in the evening this time of year so be sure to bring a rain jacket if needed. We are excited to share some outdoor time together!

History of Sheepherding Along the Continental Divide Trail

Come learn about the history and heritage of Hispano and Navajo sheepherding along the Divide at the historic Tierra Wools workshop and gallery. Located in the CDT Gateway Community of Chama, Tierra Wools keeps the tradition of Hispano and Dine (Navajo) sheepherding alive by raising the threatened Navajo-Churro breed, descended from an ancient Iberian breed introduced to the area by the Spanish over 500 years ago, along with the Rambouillet, or French Merino, breed.

This campaign is designed to engage the latinx community in reclaiming zero waste and highlighting Latinx solutions and conservation efforts that are ingrained and embedded in our culture along with policy solutions.

Bug Survey Activity with Asociación Puertorriqueños en Marcha

Refuge staff will be going to visit Asociación Puertorriqueños en Marcha's campus in Philadelphia and doing some bug programming. We will be bringing out sweep nets, bug boxes, and bug identifying pamphlets so the kids can have an amazing experience looking at bugs up close!
