How our familias taught us to be conservationists

We often forget the environmental wisdom and resourcefulness of previous generations when acculturating to modern conservation practices, especially when immigrating to a new country. Embark in a listening journey that centers cultura during a dialogue between Senior Bilingual Education Specialist Gina Carrillo (Mexican-American), STEM Integration Specialist Athena Barrios (Chicana), and Sustainability Manager Claudia Pineda Tibbs (first-generation Salvadoran-American). Viewers will be able to ask questions via chat in English y en español.

Operación Polinización

This is a free event which will include a 20-minute talk about pollination and several species of pollinators that live on Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge. There will be an emphasis on Monarch butterflies, which are an important part of the ecosystem at Muscatatuck. The talk will discuss the importance of these pollinators for wildlands, other animals, and for the plants they help pollinate as well as their importance for humans as they provide a great economic service.

After the talk, there will be a crafts activity for children and families (something relatively contactless such as coloring a pre-cut monarch butterfly mask). A free lunch will also be provided.

The event will take place outside in the parking lot of Muscatatuck NWR's Visitor Center to accommodate for COVID restrictions.
