Join Peques Nature Club for a bilingual (Spanish/English) trail riding bike adventure in the Boise Foothills. Families and peques (kids) can choose from two ability tracks available. This is a great opportunity for tweens to hang out. Caregivers are welcome to join and bring their bikes & helmets. Invite your friends and familia to a Tour de Bicicletas!  

Ages and Skill Level: Peques must be able to use a pedal bike, but other than that we don’t have a minimum age requirement. 

• For ages 7+ they will have the opportunity to ride a bike with tour guide Andrew, who will share different skills needed when going down hill, using breaks, etc. We will also discuss bike safety before heading to the bike trail. 

• For ages below 7 and for those that choose to not bike, they can ride around a more accessible bike trail, hang around the shade, and/or enjoy a snack! 

What to Bring: Please bring your own bikes, helmets and closed-toed shoes. Water, snacks, sunscreen, blanket, anything you may need to feel comfortable.

Accessibility: Trails selected will be easy with minimal to moderate hills that will be accessible to all peques participating. Trails may be narrow for a portion of the ride with limited visibility to others around the corner but there will be plenty of adults to guide the way. They are shared trails so we will get to practice how to share the trails with our community.

Join us as we celebrate a fun-filled Latino Conservation Week in the Treasure Valley! This closing event will feature an outdoor fitness event to celebrate the importance of moving our bodies and spending time recreating outdoors as a strategy for maintaining mental and physical wellness. Community vendors will be there sharing resources and giveaways. Fitness instructors will offer a variety of fun and engaging demonstrations that everyone in the family can enjoy. FREE community event. Families with children of all ages are encouraged to attend.

What to Bring: Wear comfortable clothing and sturdy shoes to move around and dance along! Bring water to stay hydrated.

Please join Idaho Sierra Club during Latino Conservation Week for a family-friendly bilingual birdwatching adventure at Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge! This is a chance to get outside and explore the natural beauty of the Treasure Valley, while learning about over a dozen local bird species at Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge. All participants will receive an educational pamphlet, and trip leaders will provide guidance in both Spanish and English to help identify birds. This is a great opportunity for folks in the Treasure Valley to spend time outdoors during Latino Conservation Week and build community in a safe and inclusive space! Event is free, plus sandwiches and refreshments will be provided by the Sierra Club!

Schedule:

• 9:00 AM: Introductions inside visitor center
• 9:15 AM: Begin nature walk
• 10:30 AM: End nature walk, hand out sandwiches, time to hang out and socialize

Registration: Please RSVP with the Idaho Sierra Club.

What to Bring: Water, sun protection, sunglasses, a hat, close-toed shoes, other clothing appropriate for the weather (we will provide sunscreen and bug spray to share). Optional: binoculars and/or camera for birdwatching.

Difficulty, skill level, and safety: The trail we will be accessing is located behind the welcome center. The trail is estimated to be 1-2 miles in distance with relatively flat terrain (estimated elevation gain is around 100-200 ft). We will complete the trail in about 1 hour. Certain sections of the path change from paved to dirt, allowing for a more immersive experience. However, there is limited shade available on the trail, so it's essential to bring sun protection, closed toe shoes, protective eyewear, and plenty of water to stay hydrated. We will provide sunscreen and bug spray to share with the group. 

We will be making frequent stops throughout the hike to identify bird species and for questions that may arise. To ensure everyone can participate safely, we'll accommodate our pace and length of the hike. Visitors will have access to public restrooms and a water fountain inside the welcome center. To ensure all visitors are safe, Deer Flat staff will carry a first aid kit during the nature walk. 

Please note that wildlife encounters are possible, so please remember to stay on designated trails at all times and to avoid disturbing any wildlife. Your safety is our top priority, and we want you to have an enjoyable experience.

We are excited to invite you to Raíces y Futuro: Celebrating Latine Conservation and Climate Justice, an event that embodies the spirit of Latino Conservation Week: Disfrutando y Conservando Nuestra Tierra—an initiative of the Hispanic Access Foundation that shines a spotlight on the Latine community’s strong conservation values. Latino Conservation Week is a national week of activities and engagement from Saturday, September 14, 2024, through Sunday, September 22, 2024.

In collaboration with the California Center for Climate Change Education, Nature Nexus Institute, and Latine community leaders, we are bringing together an inspiring event that highlights our cultural heritage and the forward-thinking leadership that drives conservation and climate justice today.

The symbol of "Raíces" (roots) represents our cultural heritage and pride. The symbol of "Futuro" (future) reflects the opportunities that today’s conservation and climate justice leaders are creating for the next generation, inspiring them to build thriving paths forward.

This event is more than just a gathering; it's a call to action, a celebration of our gente, and a platform to inspire and create thriving Latine communities. We invite you to be part of this movement, to learn, connect, and contribute to a future where our voices are heard, and our environment is protected.

Dia De Pesca is a bilingual, family-friendly event taking place in Denver, CO, at Berkley Lake Park on September 15th. Fishing poles, food, and drinks will be provided. Please register using the link on the flyer to secure yours. Numerous volunteers will be on hand to teach casting and retrieving, and a fly fishing lesson will also be offered. Families are encouraged to bring their own fishing gear and participate. This is our second Dia De Pesca of the year, and it's always a fantastic experience. Remember to arrive early, as the Broncos game is scheduled for the afternoon.

Join us for a free, family-friendly bilingual bird program. Every fall, millions of birds move through Cuyahoga Valley National Park as they journey down to Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, and South America to spend the winter. Watch as park biologists band and collect important scientific data on live, migration birds. You will have a close and personal experience with birds. We will also have cafecito, migration games, and conversations about careers in science. 

*All birds are handled and banded by professionals under a federally authorized Bird Banding Permit issued by the U.S. Geological Survey Bird Banding Laboratory. Birds are released unharmed after data is collected.

Come down to Peirce Mill for a day full of family fun! See the mill in action--and enjoy special tours of the mill just for kids. Try some traditional children's games --or make your own toys up at the barn. And at 11:00 am, we'll celebrate Latino Conservation Week with a performance by Teatro La Bolsa, a local theater troupe. They'll present “La gallina y la tortilla de maíz,” a playful re-telling of the classic Little Red Hen story in Spanish and English!

¡Ven a Peirce Mill para pasar un día lleno de diversión familiar!  Vea el molino en acción y disfrute de recorridos especiales por el molino solo para niños. Pruebe algunos juegos infantiles tradicionales o haga sus propios juguetes en el granero. Y a las 11:00 am celebraremos la Semana Latina de la Conservación con una actuación del Teatro La Bolsa, un grupo de teatro local. ¡Presentarán “La gallina y la tortilla de maíz”, una divertida narración del clásico cuento de La gallinita roja en español e inglés!
