Sana sana, Yanaguana. Join us as we kick off Latino Conservation Week in San Antonio, TX with "Agua es Vida; Water is Life," highlighting the importance of protecting our oceans, rivers, and creeks. Celebra con nosotros on Sunday, July 16, 2023 at 6:30 PM at Confluence Park, 310 West Mitchell Street.
Rosie Torres, indigenous dancer and choreographer will perform a bilingual reading of the book We Are Water Protectors, written by award-winning Ojibwe author Carole Lindstrom. Ms. Torres will begin the program by leading children and their families through a dynamic Land Acknowledgement filled with movement, song, and a call to the four directions. The reading will be followed by a water ritual at the banks of the river and a nature walk led by the Urban Bird Project (UBP). UBP members will guide children and their families on the proper way to use binoculars and draw attention to the birds and the incredible biodiversity the River supports. Throughout the nature walk, the guides will share water and bird stories rooted in Indigenous wisdom. The goal of this program is to highlight the idea that by protecting our waters, we are protecting life. Registered families will receive a FREE copy of the book We Are Water Protectors and will be invited to share aguas frescas and turtle-shaped conchas.
Water is our most sacred natural resource, and we hope this program will help connect children to nature and encourage them to become defenders of plants, wildlife, and our rivers and creeks these species depend on. Nos vemos pronto!
Agua es Vida; Water is Life is free and open to the public but spots are limited and registration is required. Register HERE: http://bit.ly/3JIoAlU
Free parking provided at Confluence Park (310 W Mitchell). Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable, close-toed shoes and bring a reusable water bottle. Limited binoculars will be provided for use during the nature walk.

Our hope with this map is to help people connect with the Roaring Fork and Colorado River Valley’s incredible public lands. Public lands are owned by a government agency (like Colorado Parks and Wildlife, the Bureau of Land Management, or the US Forest Service) and available for everyone to visit and enjoy. They are part of what makes where we live so special!
All of the places we’ve identified are ones you can visit with your whole family. The “Legend” on each map tells you other important information - what kind of activities you can do, if the site has a bathroom, etc. If you need camping or other outdoor gear, we encourage you to visit the XXX or XXX Gear Library, where you can borrow gear and test it out before you decided to purchase anything.
When you visit these special places, be sure to remember they’re home to all sorts of animals: bears, birds, fish, insects, and many more! Treat both the land you’re visiting and the animals with respect - plan ahead and prepare for your visit, always dispose of your waste properly, and take only photos. This ensures these special places will be around for many years to come.
Finally, a big thank you to all of our sponsors and partners (listed above) for making Camino Latino possible. I hope to see you outside!

Latino Conservation Week provides opportunities for Latinos and all of our community to show their support for permanently protecting our land, water, and air. To honor this movement CDLT is hosting a fun morning at Nason Creek to 1) remove the invasive Spotted Knapweed, 2) enjoy a short walk together as we learn about the fish habitat restoration projects, and 3) have a small picnic near the water. Snacks will be provided by CDLT.
Every year, endangered Spring Chinook and threatened steelhead migrate up hundreds of miles of river, making their way to Nason Creek. Nason Creek is 49 minutes from Wenatchee near Lake Wenatchee.
Kids are welcome to attend. Spotted Knapweed is easy to remove. This plant is seeding right now so all plants will be bagged and thrown away.
This event is limited to 8 participants. More information will be emailed to participants after registration.

Celebrate Latino Conservation Week with us at the Charlotte Harbor Environmental Center!
We will kick things off with the Florida Public Archeology Network as Natalie A. De La Torre Salas presents: Weeds and Seeds: A History of Dining in Southern Florida - Cattle, citrus, and many other common foods today were brought to Florida by the Spanish, so what were people eating before then? This talk covers what people would have had for dinner in Southwest Florida 2,000 years ago. Topics of environment, flora and fauna, archaeological research, and historical documents all come together to answer this question.
Following the presentation, participants will enjoy a brief walk up to CHEC's visitor center to gain special access as the center is typically closed during the summer months. At the center, enjoy interacting and learning more about the animal ambassadors that live there, browse the gift shop and ice cream selections, explore educational exhibits, and more! This portion of the program will be presented in English and translated into Spanish.
Ven a celebrar con nosotras!
Pre-registration is required. To reserve your seat please contact ashley@checflorida.org.

This series of 1:1 conversations, presented by Natalia Vásquez of Heart in Brain Studios focuses on traditional medicine, the arts, and environmental care. It is generously funded by the Hispanic Access Foundation and is part of the 10th Anniversary celebrations of Latino Conservation Week.
Daniel Correa immigrated to the United States from Colombia when he was a kid with his family. He grew up in New Jersey for the majority of his life. Ever since he was a kid, Daniel has always been fascinated by the natural world and the outdoors; in part thanks to his parents taking him to the local urban parks and family camping trips. His curiosity and interest in nature led him to a B.A. in Environmental Science with a minor in Latin American and Caribbean Studies. Daniel has used his college degree, and his passion for the environment to pursue a career in wetland habitat restoration and environmental education. He has worked on various restoration and conservation projects in the East and West Coast with the US Fish and Wildlife Service, Americorps, and most recently with the Contra Costa Resource Conservation District.
Natalia works as a visual artist and holistic practitioner. In 2017 she created Heart in Brain Studios as a nurturing space to explore internal landscapes through the visual arts and energy-based practices. Natalia serves as the interpreter for the Hispanic Access Foundation and is a trainer for the Goldie Hawn Foundation's MindUP Life program.

Niki Lopez Afro-Latina, artista visual interdisciplinaria lesbiana, curadora, practicante social y diseñadora premiada.

Disfrutando y Conservando Nuestros Rios.
ROARING FORK CONSERVANCY. Colorado River Distric.

We will hear from those who have been caring for the rivers for a long time about what we can do to keep the rivers and the environment in good condition. We will recognize the importance of admiring and valuing what it means in our lives that we have these natural resources.
We will make art projects that allow us to connect with the spiritual richness of the rivers and the land we inhabit.
After learning we will offer a healthy lunch that will allow us to share our friendship and our reflections of this day.
Throughout the day we will offer water and fruit for the attendees.
We are grateful for the collaboration of the organizations that made this meeting possible. Special thanks to the Hispanic Acces Foundation. SANA (alliance for safe and abundant nutrition) and CEAS amigos en Cristo. ROARING FORK CONSERVANCY. Colorado River District.

Disfrutando y Conservando Nuestros Rios.

On July 15, 2023, MTC will host its Hispanic Heritage Community Beautification Block Party to promote the successful efforts of tree plantation and environmental exposure through partnership with the NJ Tree Foundation. After engaging in a grass-roots two-year projects that empowered residents to organize and make environmental decisions in their neighborhood, MTC planted over 10 trees in its most predominantly Latino community. The block party will not only promote cultural engagement among all Latinos but promote residents' access to tree plantation through onsite planter boxes, flowerpots and representatives from the NJ Tree Foundation. In addition, the block party will host cultural entertainment, food and raffle basket prizes.
The event is free and open to all ages.
From Spring 2021 to Spring 2023, Movimiento Tricolor (MTC) has partnered with the New Jersey (NJ) Tree Foundation to support beautification and environmental exposure to Hispanic communities throughout Camden, New Jersey. With Camden residents fighting against pollution and illegal dumping in a city where high poverty levels exist and over 50% of residents are Hispanic, MTC partnered with the NJ Tree Foundation to combat environmental racism through the plantation of trees. The project has consisted of organizing residents, empowering them to make decisions about tree plant choices and hosting an event where neighbors and volunteers planted over 10 trees themselves. Currently the project is in its final stages partnering with a local artist, Stephanie Rodriguez, who is leading a group of Rutgers University-Camden students to paint the planter boxes for the trees previously planted. The block party will represent the culmination of the project by showcasing the trees donated by the NJ Tree Foundation, planter boxes painted by local university students and will provide information on how residents can conduct a similar project while honoring the Latino community through cultural music, performances and food. On-site services and resources from local environmental and social services organizations will also be on-site to promote social and economic development in the community.
