Get outdoors close to home. Keystone Trails Association leads an approximately three-mile guided hike exploring trails in a state-protected forest spanning over 1,000 acres on Blue Mountain. While we walk, learn more about the plants and animals that are our neighbors while you enjoy the healthy benefits of hiking.

Transportation will be provided to and from Latino Hispanic American Community Center courtesy of Pennsylvania Parks & Forests Foundation. Please pack water and insect repellent, if available. The outing is suitable for families, but participants must be able to walk the three-mile distance, including some moderate uphill sections. If heavy rains or storms are anticipated, the event will be rescheduled.

Participants will spend the day(s) hiking on Big Sur Land Trust property(ies) and take part in a conversation about their individual and their communities' experiences with natural landscapes, working lands, and urban open spaces. As part of the hike and discussion, a guest speaker in the conservation/environmental field will provide insight into their work and career pathway. Exact dates and guest speakers are TBD.

This week we celebrate the Latino community in the outdoors and conservation. We are hosting an outdoor lunch at one of the parks in the City of Richmond. Bring a picnic blanket or lawn chair and come have a good time as we enjoy the outdoors. A light lunch will be provided but feel free to bring your own.

On July 19, Trempealeau National Wildlife Refuge will be hosting Arcadia summer school field day. Here we will be having summer school students come out to the refuge and participate in environmental education programs, and we celebrating Latino Conservation Week. Kids will be learning about birds, waterfowl, and local animals and what a refuge does for local wildlife. After a fun day full of different games and learning activities, we hope to establish a lasting relationship with the school by giving the students explore bags. These bags will contain field guilds for local birds and wildlife so that they can explore and ID different wildlife on their own when they return home. We hope to see them come again next year and be ready to learn more about the outdoors and show us theirs skills they have gained on their own.

Explore our city’s past, present and future with a walk along the Miami Circle. Reflect upon the history of Downtown Miami, from the Tequesta to the early settlers on the river who called this area home.

Great River Greening engages thousands of volunteers each year in hands-on restoration, environmental conservation, and community-science-based programming. Our volunteer events are held throughout Minnesota, primarily in the Twin Cities metro, the Anoka Sand Plain of central Minnesota, as well as throughout Southern Minnesota and the Brainerd Lakes Area.

Join the ranks of our dedicated Volunteer Supervisor team as we expand restoration work in Minnesota. Volunteer Supervisors will gain beneficial leadership and restoration skills and are expected to assist at one (or more!) restoration events during the spring and fall each year.

Lead and motivate event participants in habitat restoration with Great River Greening - Become a Volunteer Supervisor!
Volunteer Supervisors lead small groups of 5-20 volunteers at hands-on restoration events. Activities often include planting native grasses and forbs, tree and shrub planting, as well as invasive and exotic plant control and broadcast seeding.

After visiting with our local beekeeper and a tour of the Pollinator Habitat attendees are invited to a leisure walk on the greenbelt and wrap up at a refreshing water destination to enjoy the river (optional).

Bring your bike and meet us at Sullivan Park for a Community Bikes and Bagels Ride along the beautiful Virgin River Trail. Free coffee and bagels and a bike safety talk to begin, then a family-friendly 5-mile roundtrip ride over gorgeous sections of boardwalk beside the Virgin River. In Collaboration with Latino Conservation Week, the Oxnard Birder's Club will be hosting a Birding 101 Workshop on Saturday, July 23rd at 8:00am at Hedrick Ranch, Santa Paula, CA.

In this workshop we will introduce methods of bird watching and current restoration efforts in the Santa Clara River Watershed. All participants will receive a Rite in the Rain notebook, and the first 12 people to sign up and join will receive a free waterproof quick-guide of Southern California Birds! Food and drinks will also be provided! The maximum capacity for this event will be 20 participants.

Join us for a morning walk in the Rio Salado Habitat Restoration Area and learn more about the birds and other wildlife in the area. This will be a bilingual Spanish-English nature walk.

What to expect:

?Before the hike, we will do introductions and set intentions with affirmation cards.

?Everyone will have a chance to choose a card that calls you. The card is yours to keep and reflect on as we hike.

?The hike will be a total distance of about  7.1 miles. The trail has over 10 boarded bridges but expect their to be lots of tree roots and small holes. Wear stable and comfortable shoes.

?Remember to dress comfortably, bring water, a snack, wear sunscreen, and mosquito repellent.

?Seminole & Timucua lands

Church of the City New London sponsored a trip on board the Black Hawk Fish Charter out of Mago Point in Waterford, Connecticut. The purpose of this event is to familiarize church members with the bountiful fisheries of the Long Island and Block Island Sounds. This was an eight hour trip in which every single person was able to harvest different species of bottom fish, such as black sea bass, porgies, mackerel, etc. 

This event gave us to opportunity to take young men that otherwise are unable to experience fishing for food and have them bring home sufficient fish to feed their families for several days.

Join the Friends of Beltzville on a hike to look for bluebirds, as well as a visit to the Friends’ Pollinator Garden, one of their most important volunteer projects. Meet at the Environmental Interpretive Center. No registration needed.

Like many public lands, the Grand Canyon is a beautiful place full of wonder, sacredness and inspiration but also a reminder of displacement, denial of heritage rights and political oppression for indigenous peoples. We will hold this balance in mind as we come together to bond and build, learning more about the work Chispa is doing in Arizona and on a National landscape; as well as holding space for our indigenous relatives to share some of their work and opportunities for collaboration, while camping.

Get a free Wagon Ride in the afternoon. Spanish-Language rides are at 12:30. 1:00, 1:30, 2:00, 2:30. English language rides are at 12:45, 1:15, 1:45, 2:15, 2:45. You can join by going to the country store and reserving a ride. We go all around the park including our trails, the woods, the crop fields and through the farmyard.

Frying Pan is located at 2709 West Ox Road close to Centreville Road and Route 28. There are two entrances to the park, one at the Visitor Center and one at the farm where the animals are, you will want to come through the Farm entrance. You can park anywhere in the large gravel parking lot next to the farm!

Join us for an early morning walk in the Rio Salado Habitat Restoration Area and learn more about the area and the birds that call it home or that stop by there for a visit.

Bird experts from Arizona Game and Fish and Audubon Southwest will be on hand to help you learn more about the birds and how to identify them. This is a family friendly event open to people of all ages and the program will be conducted in both English and Spanish.

We will provide light snacks and cold drinks, but please bring a refillable water bottle, and wear a hat, sunscreen, and comfortable shoes. We look forward to seeing you at the Rio!

In participating in this event, you are potentially participating with individuals vaccinated and unvaccinated. Use of masks is encouraged. If you are experiencing any possible COVID symptoms or are sick, you should not attend the event. You are responsible for contacting the leaders to report a positive COVID test.

On Saturday July 17th, for a Latino Conservation Week event organized by Orange Audubon Society, Wildlife Drive Ambassadors will be on the Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive to welcome Spanish-speaking visitors. 

Spanish-speaking Ambassadors will provide information on how to visit the extremely popular free 11-mile drive. The drive is part of the St. Johns River Water Management District’s lake restoration area for Lake Apopka. It is famous for its diversity of bird life and alligators.

This event will publicize the free Wildlife Drive to the Hispanic community in Central Florida and recruit Hispanic volunteers for the Wildlife Drive Ambassador Program. COVID-19 precautions observed.

Latino Conservation Week, July 16-24, 2022, was created to support the Latino community in activities to protect our natural resources. An initiative of Hispanic Access Foundation, based in Washington, D.C., Latino Conservation Week https://latinoconservationweek.com/ demonstrates support by Hispanics for permanently protecting our land, water, and air.

We are renting kayaks so that our regular participants can get a chance to kayak in Elk Horn Slough.  It will be a two hour adventure and first time in a kayak for many of our students. 

Improbable Comedy presents “Comedy as a Second Language”, an interactive comedy show featuring the stand-up comedy of immigrant and first-generation performers.  You’ll have lots of fun with the comics as they share heartfelt stories about their lives, families, and their relationship with their American home. Event begins at 6:00 pm with food and beverage for purchase from local vendors. The show will begin at 7:00 pm and guests are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and picnic blankets for viewing. This event is intended for mature audiences and is not recommended for viewers under seventeen. Viewer discretion is advised.

Join us for a convening of local organizations hosted at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. In this half-day event, enjoy an educational and relationship-centered agenda featuring:

• Connecting and relationship-building with other local organizations.
• Discovering synergies for how we can help celebrate Latinx leaders in our community and provide outdoor access to more groups. 
• Experiencing a blended-language sea otter feeding.
• Touring our new exhibit Into the Deep: Exploring Our Undiscovered Ocean (En lo Profundo: Explorando Nuestro Océano Desconocido).

No cost to participate, however, each participant is responsible for transportation; street parking is available. Lunch will be catered and served at the Aquarium. 

Who should apply

We are looking for representatives of local organizations to join us in this convening. Organizations that are an immediate fit are:

• Located in Monterey, Santa Cruz, or San Benito counties. 
• Focused on removing barriers or creating access for the Latinx community to outdoor spaces.
• Working to engage or celebrate stewardship and conservation efforts of the Latinx community.

Join us for a morning walk in partnership with Latino Outdoors and Grassroots Ecology at Cooley Landing! Participants can expect to learn about native plants, the importance of habitat restoration, and hopefully see some exciting wildlife sightings! We will start with a welcome, learn about the history of Cooley Landing and the salt marsh ecology, and end with a breathing exercise. The walk will be roughly 3 miles total on mostly paved trail to the Ravenswood lookout. Snacks will be provided but please bring a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated!

Parking: There are two small parking lots at Cooley Landing. There is a parking lot at the end of Bay Road near the Education Center, and a smaller parking lot closer to Ravenswood Preserve. No entrance or parking fees are required.

Bus: Take the 296 going North to Bay/Pulgas or the 280 going East to Bay/Pulgas. From the bus stop, it's a half mile walk down Bay Rd. to Cooley Landing.

Bike: There are spots to lock up your bike at the Education Center.

Meeting Space: We will meet at the Cooley Landing Education Center. Bathrooms, cell service, wifi, and water fountains are all accessible.

In celebration of Latino Conservation Week, Wasatch Mountain Institute is hosting a star party!  In collaboration with Utah State Parks and volunteers, Wasatch Mountain Institute will provide an educational program on dark skies and stargazing.  Telescopes and binoculars will be provided, and participants should plan to bring their own flashlight or headlamps, blankets, chairs, snacks, and anything else to stay warm and comfortable outside.

This FREE bilingual family-friendly event will include activities for all ages and skill levels, including arts & crafts and guided boating rides at Riverside Park with members of the Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council.

San Diego Audubon Society is proud to celebrate our 3rd year of Latino Conservation Week. We will be biking from the Balboa stop on the Blue Line Trolley to the Kendall-Frost Marsh Reserve on Saturday, July 23rd and birding along the way. When we get to the reserve, we will meet with a wetland scientists to talk about the importance of the area, and the research and conservation that is being carried out here. This event will be primarily in Spanish, but portions will also be translated into English.

Bring the kids out to a Red Cliffs Summer Story and Craft Session in honor of Latino Conservation Week. Join us for nature stories in Spanish and English under a shady tree at the Brooks Nature Park. Help us kick off Latino Conservation Week with a day of preserving and protecting our native habitats. If the weather and water conditions are right, we will send out a canoe team to clean trash from the pristine water of the Armand Bayou and along the nearby banks. If a water clean up is not possible, we will plan to head into the riparian forest to perform much needed maintenance along our trails. // Ayúdanos a iniciar Latino Conservation Week con un día de conservación para preservar y proteger nuestros hábitats nativos. 8:30 AM Canoe Cleanup or Trail Maintenance (4hrs, 10 max): Participants will join volunteers and staff for a cleanup of our waterway by canoe or trail maintenance depending on the weather. They will begin with a safety talk and a 10 minute interpretive talk. Age 16+

On Saturday, July 16, EarthCorps and the City of Burien will be celebrating Latino Conservation Week at Hazel Valley Park. During our event at Hazel Valley Park, we'll be removing non-native weeds, creating opportunities to talk about the role that we play in protecting our planet's natural resources, and building community with one another.

Folks who identify as Latino/a/e as well as friends, family, and allies are welcome. Lunch and tools will be provided. We will teach you everything you need to know about tool use, safety, forest health, and the importance of the work you will be doing. No experience necessary, just come ready to learn something new! Spanish translation will be available. Come join SUWA and HEAL Utah for an educational hike along the Rocky Peak Trail in the Three Peaks Recreation Area. We will be exploring the topics of conservation of the nearby Antelope Mountain Range, conservation and its close links with Latinx culture and heritage, as well as explore the history of the nearby Old Spanish National Historic Trail. The hike is an easy to moderate trail and will take approximately an hour and a half to two hours. A dual-sided brochure about the covered topics will be provided in Spanish and English to help drive conversation and camaraderie. Let's get out on the trail, together!

Come and swap stories with our bilingual ranger in Spanish or Spanglish about exploring nature while watching the stars come out over Whiskeytown Lake.

Never have visited the wetlands? This will be an excellent opportunity to dedicate and enjoy time in nature with your loved ones. Bring your family and join us on this day for a nature guided walk where you will learn about the wildlife that live in this ecosystem, as well as the native plants that are naturally flourishing this summer.  Participants will learn about Watsonville’s trail system that surrounds the wetlands and how to protect them. Families will receive a gift bag with items  to help them reduce the use of single-use plastics as part of Watsonville’s July Plastic- Free campaign!

On Sunday July 24th we are planning to take the entire Church families, Children and Youth to a local Regional Park called Yucaipa Regional Park. Our hope is to be able to highlight the important of local, regional, state and National Park access for all. During this outing during Latino Conservation Week 2022 we plan to showcase why local spaces are important for physical health as we exercise, hike, walk, bike, swim, play sports and so much more. It is also important for Mental health as we utilize these spaces we get away from our normal routines, meditation, and reflection. We are showing local residents and members of our church that they should have and enjoy access to these spaces. and enjoy open spaces for everyone to enjoy. 

Join Watsonville Wetlands Watch and Regeneracion in an effort to take care of Struve Slough, do some maintenance on the trail, and learn how we can protect the Wetlands. There will also be educational activities. Family friendly. We meet at the lower Nob Hill shopping center parking lot at 9 am, and the event will go until noon.

Join us for a Family Rock Climbing Event!

Latino Outdoors Colorado is partnering with the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge to host a family stewardship day for Latino Conservation Week!

We will start the day with a short hike around the refuge and then make our way back to the visitor center to help paint rocks for the refuge's new pollinator garden. Afterwards, participants will have the opportunity to explore the refuge visitor center and meet the resident ferrets!

This event is free and will begin at 8:30 a.m. and go until 11:30 a.m.

Summer Reading Program presents "Find your Park" in collaboration for Latino Conservation Week,  Friends of the Desert Mountains education program will present about the Santa Rosa San Jacinto Mountains National Monument. Participants will also learn about the landscape and wildlife through art using natural dyes made from cochineal.
