Get outdoors close to home. Keystone Trails Association leads an approximately three-mile guided hike exploring trails in a state-protected forest spanning over 1,000 acres on Blue Mountain. While we walk, learn more about the plants and animals that are our neighbors while you enjoy the healthy benefits of hiking.

Transportation will be provided to and from Latino Hispanic American Community Center courtesy of Pennsylvania Parks & Forests Foundation. Please pack water and insect repellent, if available. The outing is suitable for families, but participants must be able to walk the three-mile distance, including some moderate uphill sections. If heavy rains or storms are anticipated, the event will be rescheduled.

Participants will spend the day(s) hiking on Big Sur Land Trust property(ies) and take part in a conversation about their individual and their communities' experiences with natural landscapes, working lands, and urban open spaces. As part of the hike and discussion, a guest speaker in the conservation/environmental field will provide insight into their work and career pathway. Exact dates and guest speakers are TBD.

On July 19, Trempealeau National Wildlife Refuge will be hosting Arcadia summer school field day. Here we will be having summer school students come out to the refuge and participate in environmental education programs, and we celebrating Latino Conservation Week. Kids will be learning about birds, waterfowl, and local animals and what a refuge does for local wildlife. After a fun day full of different games and learning activities, we hope to establish a lasting relationship with the school by giving the students explore bags. These bags will contain field guilds for local birds and wildlife so that they can explore and ID different wildlife on their own when they return home. We hope to see them come again next year and be ready to learn more about the outdoors and show us theirs skills they have gained on their own.

Explore our city’s past, present and future with a walk along the Miami Circle. Reflect upon the history of Downtown Miami, from the Tequesta to the early settlers on the river who called this area home.

Maryland Flying Squirrels are abundant and active year-round, but rarely seen in the wild because they are nocturnal. Join a naturalist for a viewing program on the Nature Center deck at our squirrel feeding station 30 minutes after sunset. Rain cancels the program. Program presented in Spanish.

We are renting kayaks so that our regular participants can get a chance to kayak in Elk Horn Slough.  It will be a two hour adventure and first time in a kayak for many of our students. 

Improbable Comedy presents “Comedy as a Second Language”, an interactive comedy show featuring the stand-up comedy of immigrant and first-generation performers.  You’ll have lots of fun with the comics as they share heartfelt stories about their lives, families, and their relationship with their American home. Event begins at 6:00 pm with food and beverage for purchase from local vendors. The show will begin at 7:00 pm and guests are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and picnic blankets for viewing. This event is intended for mature audiences and is not recommended for viewers under seventeen. Viewer discretion is advised.

Join us for a convening of local organizations hosted at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. In this half-day event, enjoy an educational and relationship-centered agenda featuring:

• Connecting and relationship-building with other local organizations.
• Discovering synergies for how we can help celebrate Latinx leaders in our community and provide outdoor access to more groups. 
• Experiencing a blended-language sea otter feeding.
• Touring our new exhibit Into the Deep: Exploring Our Undiscovered Ocean (En lo Profundo: Explorando Nuestro Océano Desconocido).

No cost to participate, however, each participant is responsible for transportation; street parking is available. Lunch will be catered and served at the Aquarium. 

Who should apply

We are looking for representatives of local organizations to join us in this convening. Organizations that are an immediate fit are:

• Located in Monterey, Santa Cruz, or San Benito counties. 
• Focused on removing barriers or creating access for the Latinx community to outdoor spaces.
• Working to engage or celebrate stewardship and conservation efforts of the Latinx community.

San Diego Audubon Society is proud to celebrate our 3rd year of Latino Conservation Week. We will be biking from the Balboa stop on the Blue Line Trolley to the Kendall-Frost Marsh Reserve on Saturday, July 23rd and birding along the way. When we get to the reserve, we will meet with a wetland scientists to talk about the importance of the area, and the research and conservation that is being carried out here. This event will be primarily in Spanish, but portions will also be translated into English.

Help us kick off Latino Conservation Week with a day of preserving and protecting our native habitats. If the weather and water conditions are right, we will send out a canoe team to clean trash from the pristine water of the Armand Bayou and along the nearby banks. If a water clean up is not possible, we will plan to head into the riparian forest to perform much needed maintenance along our trails. // Ayúdanos a iniciar Latino Conservation Week con un día de conservación para preservar y proteger nuestros hábitats nativos. On Saturday, July 16, EarthCorps and the City of Burien will be celebrating Latino Conservation Week at Hazel Valley Park. During our event at Hazel Valley Park, we'll be removing non-native weeds, creating opportunities to talk about the role that we play in protecting our planet's natural resources, and building community with one another.

Folks who identify as Latino/a/e as well as friends, family, and allies are welcome. Lunch and tools will be provided. We will teach you everything you need to know about tool use, safety, forest health, and the importance of the work you will be doing. No experience necessary, just come ready to learn something new! Spanish translation will be available. Come join SUWA and HEAL Utah for an educational hike along the Rocky Peak Trail in the Three Peaks Recreation Area. We will be exploring the topics of conservation of the nearby Antelope Mountain Range, conservation and its close links with Latinx culture and heritage, as well as explore the history of the nearby Old Spanish National Historic Trail. The hike is an easy to moderate trail and will take approximately an hour and a half to two hours. A dual-sided brochure about the covered topics will be provided in Spanish and English to help drive conversation and camaraderie. Let's get out on the trail, together!

Come and swap stories with our bilingual ranger in Spanish or Spanglish about exploring nature while watching the stars come out over Whiskeytown Lake.

Never have visited the wetlands? This will be an excellent opportunity to dedicate and enjoy time in nature with your loved ones. On Sunday July 24th we are planning to take the entire Church families, Children and Youth to a local Regional Park called Yucaipa Regional Park. Our hope is to be able to highlight the important of local, regional, state and National Park access for all. During this outing during Latino Conservation Week 2022 we plan to showcase why local spaces are important for physical health as we exercise, hike, walk, bike, swim, play sports and so much more. It is also important for Mental health as we utilize these spaces we get away from our normal routines, meditation, and reflection. We are showing local residents and members of our church that they should have and enjoy access to these spaces. and enjoy open spaces for everyone to enjoy. 

Join Watsonville Wetlands Watch and Regeneracion in an effort to take care of Struve Slough, do some maintenance on the trail, and learn how we can protect the Wetlands. There will also be educational activities. Family friendly. We meet at the lower Nob Hill shopping center parking lot at 9 am, and the event will go until noon.

En esta oportunidad, Huellas Latinas y Minnesota State Parks & Trails se complacen en hacer un partnership para ofrecer un I Can Camp Program de 2 noches para las Familias Latinas.

El programa I Cam Camp con Huellas Latinas será ofrecido a 10 familias latinas y se llevará a cabo en Itasca State Park desde el viernes 15 de julio hasta el domingo 17 de julio. El programa comprende diversas actividades para la familia, adultos y niños, entre ellas: instrucciones sobre la instalación de campamento, la cocina al aire libre y seguridad con estufas, la construcción de fogatas, los equipos para acampar y habilidades de campamento. SAMO Fund's Mission Monarch will be leading a bilingual guided hike with discussion about different pollinator plants found throughout the trail.

Expect an easy hike, but please bring at least two liters of water per person and sun protection (hat, sunscreen, long sleeve shirt/pants).

Get free milkweed to plant and attract monarch butterflies to your space after the event!

The event will take place July 16, 2022 from 9am-12pm. Meet at the Trailhead to Harmon Canyon and sign in at the Santa Monica Mountains (SAMO) Fund booth for a brief safety talk prior to the hike.

Celebrate the start of Latino Conservation Week with park rangers at on Saturday, July 16 from 10AM to 2PM at the Santa Monica Mountains Interagency Visitor Center at King Gillette Ranch in Calabasas.

This FREE event is open to everyone of all ages to celebrate and highlight the Latinx community and the field of conservation.

Park rangers will guide attendees on bilingual hikes, help visitors identify common wildlife, and highlight how we can protect nature in our daily lives. Join in on festivities with hands-on workshops, crafts, and free wildlife guides! Food vendors will be available throughout the day to keep those energy levels high.

Guest speakers include Miguel Ordeñana, the biologist who helped discover LA's famous mountain lion P-22 in Griffith Park. Park staff will discuss ways we are monitoring wildlife post-wildfire and how to identify edible native plants found in the mountains.

Local organizations will highlight diverse ways folks from all skill levels can participate in conservation from their own homes and ways to attract monarchs. This event is powered by organizations including the Santa Monica Mountains Fund, the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles, National Forest Foundation and Heal the Bay.

Youth aged 5 - 15 are invited to come with their families to fish at Patuxent Research Refuge on July 16th. Instructions and equipment for youth are provided. A license for youth is not required. These free fishing activities are a part of other events happening at Patuxent on July 16th in celebration of Latino Conservation Week. Events will take place starting at 9am - 2pm. In addition to fishing, we will have live bird programs, kids' crafts, monarch butterfly releases, and trails to explore. The fishing activities are the only activities taking place on July 16th at Patuxent that require pre registration. There will be two time slots for fishing, 9am -10:30am & 10:30am - 12pm and a total of 15 families will be able to participate during each time slot. This is a free event providing fun and education on conservation and outdoor recreation with nonprofit organizations and businesses dedicated to the outdoors and sustainability. Learn new skills, get informed, and participate in a free gear swap.

Bring all your old outdoor gear and clothing for a free (yes, free!) gear swap! This gear swap gives a second life to items that take up room and ultimately may end up in the trash. By recycling and handing down your old and unused gear, you are giving someone the opportunity to have access to some gear they may have never been able to afford.

On July 16th, Orlando will celebrate "Latino Conservation Week," an initiative of the Hispanic Access Foundation. Join us and experts from Wekiwa Springs State Park as they educate us with interesting facts about the importance of keeping our water sources and surroundings free of trash.

Latino Verde, Hispanic Access Foundation, Florida State Parks, Sierra Club, and Mi Familia Vota are pleased to invite you to participate in "Latino Verde: Acción Ambiental Comunitaria." This event invites the Hispanic community to engage in an activity that protects valuable natural resources such as Wekiwa Springs State Park. The goal is to collect micro-trash around the spring, as this is one of the main concerns for this park.

The action will take place on Saturday, July 16, 2022, starting at 8:30am at the park premises (Address:1800 Wekiwa Circle, Apopka FL 32712). Participants will have a transportation option if required, free admission, light lunch, drinks, collecting materials, and receive a participatory certificate. Participants are encouraged to stay and enjoy the park after the activity ends.

About Latino Conservation Week

Latino Conservation Week: Disfrutando y Conservando Nuestra Tierra is an initiative of Hispanic Access Foundation (HAF). Latino Conservation Week was created to support the Latino community getting into the outdoors and participating in activities to protect our natural resources.

During this week, community, non-profit, faith-based, and government organizations and agencies hold events throughout the country. From hiking and camping to community roundtables and film screenings, these activities promote conservation efforts in their community, and provide an opportunity for Latinos to show their support for permanently protecting our land, water, and air.

This experience is facilitated by Outdoor Connections USA and the Virginia Key Outdoor Center. It is funded by the Hispanic Access Foundation. Thank you for all the sponsors and facilitators for making this possible!

About This Tour

Meet us on the water to connect and uncover what nature has for you here at Virginia Key!

Learn about the ecological and historical significance of the island on this 2-hour kayak and paddleboard Eco excursion. During our tour, participants will have the opportunity to encounter wildlife such as Herons, Egrets, Osprey, Manatees, Pelicans and Dolphins.

We launch from our tranquil lagoon. Guests will participate in an interpretive Eco Tour and learn about the history and ecology of Virginia Key.

Depending the conditions, guests will have the choice to snorkel at a rock piling where we have seen Sea Turtles, Lion Fish, and other sea life! If that spot is unavailable, participants can expect to snorkel around the grass bed and jetties. We have seen rays, different kinds of fish, eels, and sea turtles.

Participants MUST be 8 years old or older to participate. All Minors must be accompanied by parent or guardian.

Is This Tour Suitable for Beginners?

This paddle is suitable for experienced beginners. Conditions will determine the length and final route. Not recommended for first-time paddleboarding or kayaking. We will paddle at a leisurely pace.

A brief introduction to kayaking and paddle-boarding is given before departure. Participants must be comfortable with water.

This experience is a challenge by choice, meaning you are not required to get into the water to snorkel. It would be fun if you do though :-) We will be snorkeling in maximum 5-6 feet of water (if high tide)

MISS (Minorities In Shark Sciences; misselasmo.org) invites you to celebrate Latino Conservation Week at SharkCon!

Find the MISS booth on July 16th & July 17th to learn more about sharks, with some activities offered in Spanish.

Please also join us on Sunday July 17th at noon to hear one of this year's guest speaker and MISS member Dr. Camila Cáceres talk about her shark research, talk will be offered both in English and Spanish.

The City of Soledad, Save the Whales, and the Girl Scouts will be hosting a Butterfly Garden planting event. The Monarch Butterfly is crucial to our ecosystem and is an important component of the Latino culture. Every year Monarch Butterflies migrant from Mexico to the US and Canada. The Monarch, representing the plight of immigrants, has seen a decline in recent years and this garden will serve as a resting and feeding point for these beautiful creatures. 

Morning Acequia Hike Along the San Juan Acequia

Hike with us on this educational 6-mile round trip walk along Mission San Juan’s historic acequias. 

Latino Outdoors will provide refreshments and snacks prior to the hike.

We’re hosting a Native Flora Workshop and Potting Party at the Tonaquint Nature Center to kick of Latino Conservation Week in St. George! Learn about water conservation and desert-friendly native plant species from a Latinx Greenhouse Manager in southwest Utah. Everyone leaves with your own potted desert plant to brighten your home or yard!

“Who am I?” Learn about furs, and skulls of the mammals found in the park. The Park Naturalist will have a table display with one of each throughout the day.
